Windows Help!

I had some problem with my windows recently. I keep getting this problem.
"\windows\system32\config\system"

It won't start windows. then it tells me to insert my windows setup disc and press r to repair it. my concern is that if i do this will i lose all of my files?

my dad has work there and well, he would literally kill me if something happens to that.

sorry for the n00bishness but if you could help me i would appreciate it.

just want to give a heads up, make sure you read through that article very carefuly so you understand what you need to do and do NOT skip a step. Messing up that process can make things even worse. As for loss of data as long as you don't format the hard drive you should not lose anything.
