When I goto restart my system hangs after it exits the desktop with a blinking line in the top left corner, like in DOS or something but it will hang there for 3 mins. Also when I goto shutdown it will hang, only at the desktop, but it wont always hang on shutdown, it ALWAYS hangs on restart.

BTW I had to upgrade from Windows95 to Me because the cd is an upgrade disc. To bad its not like the Win98 upgrade CD's where u can get teh full version off reguardless of wether or not your upgradeing or install on a blank hardrive...

Sys specs:
550mhz AMD Athlon Slot A @ 611mhz 5.5x111
12x Delta DVD
192 meg p100 at pc133
20gig (19.1gig actualy)WD 7200rpm ata 66 ( WinMe on 9gig partition & and Win2k ( coming soon) on 10 gig partition.)
ATI Radeon 64 SDR

Also I have gotin all the updates from the MS update site.

Did you check for Me updates on microsoft? I think there might be a fix there. Also I have the Me upgrade Cd and I'm able to do fresh install with it without having to do an upgrade.

JSTNOMEGA - welcome to the forum

Angry - check for updates and also it could be an install failure from jumping up from Win95 - I have heard lots of horror stories from the 95--> ME upgrade more than the 98 --> ME upgrade.

Might be a software conflict..

Will it restart when you end task everything and then reboot?

Angry, Not listed in your sig, but do you have a NIC card in there? If so, physically remove fr the box & see if that changes anything. If the hangs cease, look for ME drivers for the NIC. GL.

see if the irq's are stacked with several devices.

make sure if u have an agp slot there is no card in the first slot under it.

In a WinMe system U need the correct chipset drivers and the proper video card drivers get updates from the makers of these items...

In Me,,DRIVERS,DRIVERS,DRIVERS..You need to have the correct ones specificly made for ME...

Lastly try to see if lowering the systems overclocking helps.....

Dang your on a modem?

It'll be long for you to get all those updates then..

Like I said..

Try SHUTTING everything off except for the core Windows Files and then try to reboot...
I believe something is preventing it to reboot.
