There are a lot of sites suggesting the prices of conroes will drop dramatically fairly quickly because.

A. price gouging will cease
B. AMD needs to compete for the short term by dropping prices, hence intel will be pressed to drop prices also.
C. Intel wants to recapture market share before AMD releases any competitor to core 2 duo, and they won't be tempting to many ppl with those prices.

D. Kentsfield is on the horizon and intel doesn't want people waiting for it instead of buying into conroe.

So seriously sit on your hands guys, and put that darn credit card back in ya wallet.

Since we're on this topic, what do you make of the subpar results posted by the XE's so far?? They look very disappointing to say the least.

Don't worry, you won't see me pulling out jack at prices like that. The ~1150-1200 prices were/are bad enough, this is just pure insanity. ESes sold for less than this about a month ago.

that translates to almost 750 AU for the 6700, add on Aus retailer prices and us guys downunder are looking at probably 900$ for a 6700.

The prices won't last at that dizzy hieght, the retailers won't be able to push pre-builts out the door paying that much for cpu's

interesting price hike between 6600 and 6700 also 225$? i think the 6700 and 6600 will start showing up very different results, fromt he benches iv seen so far the 6700 blows away the 6600 for one reason or another, but the 6800 vs the 6700 are near identical.

makes me wonder if the 6700 and above are different bins then the 6600 and below.

I checked mwave earlier today and they didn't have anything. In any event, Egg won't be able to pull prices like that very long. 30% over MSRP is nuts, but when the MSRP is that high to begin with, that's not chump change. Sheesh, wait a week or two and get the X6800 for "regular" price and an x1900 CF Master for what you'd spend on just the X6800 there today :-/

That article is BS, compairing a system with flagship 590MCP chipset, to a machine with mid-range 965 chipset.

Apparently [H] did not have a 975X board to use, so they ran with what they had(965). No where in the article did they mention the different chipsets. All they said was something to this affect "Conroe offers no performance gain over FX-62 in hi-res gaming". It's BS man. There are folks new to the hobby who don't know any better, and will believe that stuff.

Wow, great article. Exactly what I was waiting for. Virtually no difference. It is good to see some competition though. That means lower prices for everyone. Looks like Intel has a nice contender. I'm interested to see how they overclock. $1,300 is way steep though. That's why I went AMD to begin with.

I think this tells the full story. These processors are much more powerfull than AMD's, but the graphics card in the gaming test was the limiting factor in the test.

Do you really think so? The 7900 GTX is a really powerful card. They pointed that out in the article. The graphics cards now-a-days are whats really limiting games, not CPUS. I really don't think the chipsets used in this comparo were really that big of a factor. But, like you pointed out, if the card is actually holding things back, then spending $1,300.00 on a conroe right now would be a little absurd, seeing as the graphics cards can't even keep up. I'm just happy to finally see some comparos that aren't conducted by Intel. I think it's a good idea to wait for some good comparos here on the forums that factor in OCing. That's what I want to see. These chips are supposed to be huge OCers.

Paying 1300 for any processor is absurd, but that should change soon. At least I hope. As for me, I don't game a ton, so my cpu is a little more important. But the 6600 should do fine, and for 350, should be a nice buy.

Edit* now that I think of it, the chipset difference isn't that big. In fact, I think the 965's will preform as good if not better than the 975's. The 965 is only missing crossfire and it's new and build specificly for the conroe family.

Well, these are pre-order prices from South Africa, VERY steep. Taking 7.5 SA rand is one US $. Makes the x6800 like $1400.

I would like to see just how low amd is willing to drop those prices, and just when the conroes will be dropping.

@Ross, make some noise when u get more info on that Giga-byte DQ6, that thing looks very sweet.

Anandtech as a nice review (LINK (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=2795)) of the tech and how it stacks up to current procs. I particularly liked how they gave comparisons of 4mb vs 2mb cache, and also higher FSB gains (higher FBS, lower multi) all with retail procs (no more of these "ESs are cherry picked" arguments). IMO it was a well rounded review, if you wanted detailed specs (IPC etc) then you should be able to find it around there too... also check out our Conroe guide (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=459260) here at OCF for some more general conroe goodness.

ya, im assuming this is neweggs share of that very first batch that got out... the not very impressive and verging on disappointingly low overclocking chips

ill be very torn on which i try next if this turns out to be a crappy clocker... one of the better clocking ES chips or wait for the next batch of retail 6800 chips :-/

Didn't see the add, but NewEgg may have just been testing the waters to see how much interest there was in the x6800 before buying their first lot. Probably don't want to be caught holding the bag on a few hundred chips if that slow sell. For whatever reason, it's a crappy thing to do

602 definitely should be. Fiddle with the board some.

Try booting up with a single stick of ram, and/or pull the BIOS battery for 30 seconds+.

There's not a whole lot to it, especially at 12x, 4GHz should be a no-brainer with Vc. Just make sure you check the actual Vc because what you set may not necessarily be what you get (could be a lot lower).

Don't cry yet...his proc is looking promising. AIBooster and some FSB weirdness is what seems to be stopping him. It definitely seems a lot better than my E6700 was.

Its pretty obvious he made his retail clocks look like crap so everyone would flock to him to buy an ES, I wouldn't give that guy 2 cents! :mad: :mad:

btw.. I didnt see any ES's dual prime 95 any better then his retail chip :rolleyes:
