Conroe build: is there a point to faster than DDR2800 if the mobo doesn't support it?

I'm looking to get the Asus P5B Deluxe, and its specs list it supports DDR2-800/667/533.

Is there a point to buying faster than DDR2-800, i.e. DDR2-1000, if the motherboard doesn't support it?

Or...the default FSB speed for Conroe is 266 MHz. If you set the memory to 800 MHz in the BIOS, does that simply mean that it will run at 800 MHz when the FSB is at its default of 266, but if you overclock the FSB the memory speed will go even higher? Are the 800/667/533 settings just dividers?

Look at it this way... DDR1 boards only support PC3200 memory. However, most of those boards will allow memory of a much higher calibur such as PC3500, 4000 or 5300. DDR2 boards work much the same way as DDR1 boards.

So, to answer your question, if you want to overclock, get the higher rated memory. Your board should be able to take it.
