I currently have a 256mb 9800 Pro which I can flash to an XT, but haven't done so yet. I have found some acceptable prices for a X850 XT card and a 7600 GT. Is there a large difference between the 2 cards? What about the 7600 GT?

an x850xt and a 7600gt would preform similar and either of those two cards would be a great improvement over the 9800 xt.

x850XT is better than a 6800GT/Ultra...6800 has PS3.0 though. Not to sure about a 7600GT though....never seen the performance in front of my face so I can't compare. I just bought a x850PRO that imma flash to XTPE so i can give ya some benchies later on lol.

The x850xt owns all over the 9800pro which is a great card in its own right.

I have both of these cards as well as a 6600GT.

The 6600GT was hardly an upgrade from the 9800pro, the x850xt owns them both.

Since I've made the change from 9800pro to x800xt-pe, I can notice a HUGE difference!

But if I where you, I'd wait and jump ship to PCI....i really wish I did now :(

only get a new card if you plan to keep that system for some time then you should look for a agp card. If you want to upgrade to pcie you might as well wait for the new products comming down the pipes.

the 7600gt is better overall if you are building a new system but upgrading to a x850 would help save your current system for awhile longer.

I wouldnt buy any agp card for more then 150 though. If you can find a card cheap and dont want to change systems anytime soon pick it up.

some deals on agp cards at ati http://shop.ati.com/searchresults.asp?dept_id=39

Radeon® X850 Pro 256MB AGP - New + 1 Year Standard Warranty

Radeon® X800 XL AGP 256MB D/V/VIVO Whitebox - REFURB* + Standard Warranty

Price: $119.00 shipped

the x850 only has 12 pipes but a different core at higher speeds with some chance of unlocking. the x800 has 16 pipes but runs at lower clock speeds then the 850 and is refurbished.

the x800xl looks like a better deal to me more info at http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1070975 on this deal.
At stock speeds they perform about the same so dont get the x850 unless you think you can unlock it.

so dont get the x850 unless you think you can unlock it.Just a head's up.. since it's from ATI's site the chances that it'll be unlockable are pretty much zero as it'll be one of the newer ones.

In one of the links I gave there are posts about this and yes your unlock chances are very low at best as they are the lazer cut cores. I should have mentioned this im my other post thx for bringing that up. Basically the only reason to get the x850pro is if you dont want a refurb card.
