I want to connect to my main rig using Remote Desktop, but I'm having problems with port forwarding because the local IP address of my machine changes all the time. The DHCP or whatever automatically assigns a local IP in the range of 192.168.1.100-150. In my router configuration, I have to open the RDC port and specify the local IP address. However, since the local IP address changes sometimes on a daily basis, I have to reconfigure the router every time I want to use RDC. How can I work around this?
I don't know much about networking, but I'm thinking I have to do something like give a permanent local IP address to all machines connected through the router. Is this possible? I'm afraid to mess with any of the router settings, because I don't know what I'm doing.
