All right don't know if anyone can help me but its worth a shot i'm running out of ideas... I'm helping a local fire department setup a website there hosting on there own server (small business server 2003) they are using a self signed certificate for now. there domain is registered through godaddy.com and heres the problem we're having. if you type in the url we'll use xyz for an example www.xzy.com the site will not load.. however if you type in https://www.xyz.com the site will load fine... i know it has to do with the s and the secure connection but why wont it still come up?? on godaddy.com the a record points to the ip address.. any ideas???

Sounds like you are putting the web pages in the wrong place. I am not web design expert, but where are you putting the web page files? Might just need to change them to a different folder.

http and https are two different ports. http is 80 and https is 443

You have either started the https server but not the http one or port 80 is firewalled off

well I've got the problem fixed the website works again I think it must have had something to do with the settings I had set on godaddy.com... it can just be so frustrating because if you make dns changes it can take up to 48 hrs. so if your changing stuff it can take a long time :) but it is working now thanks for the replies!!!
