Does anyone know where i can get a fan for my vid card. I'm looking for a place where i can buy the cheap fans that usually come with the cards. The one i have now is making alot of noise and all attempts to fix it have failed, and all the stores around my area do not carry gpu fans for vid cards. It is a Geforce2 mx/400 card and all it has on it atm is the little factory heatsink as i have removed the fan. i am not using the card atm because im not sure how safe it would be to use it w/o a fan. Any info would be helpful.

Personally, I'd pull the gpu hsf off and put on a blue orb

My Hercules MX card did not come with a fan, only a passive heatsink. A regular 40mm fan fit right on it if you use the right size and length screws. But like Oni said, for just a little more cash, you can step up to a Blue Orb, which cools quite nicely and will usually installs right on with no modifications.

Yea, the blue orb was actually my first thought, and i purchased one for real cheap off of ebay about 2 weeks ago. But i couldnt figure out how to take off the hs and i didnt want to damage the card, so i just left it alone. Would i be ok with just using the card w/o the fan or would that be too risky?

I may just go ahead and get a 40mm fan and try to get that to stay on it if possible.

Removing the HSF is actually quite easy. Just pop it in the freezer for 20 min, and twist off. Don't use a screwriver, I repeat: DO NOT USE A TOOL TO REMOVE THE HSF! It is very, very easy to slip and break a trace, remove a resistor, or worse. I killed a Radeon 64 DDR VIVO in this (and other) manner. Just be patient and careful, and you will have no problems.

I personally just modded my own. I had purchased last year on ebay a box full of different heatsinks (approx. 50). I used heatsinks that were the same height and glued smaller ones on the ram and 1 big one on the GPU. Then I put a 80mm case fan on top of all those heatsinks blowing downward. My video card stays at temp of 40C all day long! It used to hover around 60C ;which i didn't like; with the stock heatsink & fan.
