My OCZ PowerSream 520w just died. I need a new PSU great for OC'ing intel chips and has at least 600w. Could someone point me to the best PSU on the market? I need lot's of power, enough power on the rails for OC'ing a D 930 3.0ghz to 3.6ghz, and power a bunch of 120mm case fans. I need to get one real quick because I don't have another computer and I need to get on it. Also, if I go conroe later, will this new PSU be able to handle it? Thanks a lot!

930 to 3.6GHz doesn't need a ton of power.
Conroe should draw considerably less power than a Pentium D 930.
See if you can get the Silverstone ST56ZF, if you're not willing to go with another OCZ powerstream.

I was looking at the OCZ GameXStream (Thank for that. I was looking at the OCZ GameXStream 700w, would this be any good for me?) 700w, would this be any good for me?

If they get much bigger than this I haven't heard of them.

Fans draw very little
The OCZ should do just fine. High combined +12v (50A).

what happened to your ocz520? the single large 12V rail should overclock very well, maybe you can get a replacement if it's under warranty, ocz is supposed to have great customer service

Five year warranty I believe.
Yeah, I would check into a replacement. The Powerstream 520w is still a very beefy unit. It has plenty of amperage on the +12v rail so overclocking with Intel should not be a problem. Conroe draws less power than Intel's current line, so you will be fine there if you decide to upgrade. The only problem is that GPUs are starting to draw a ton of power now, so if that is a big priority for you, then I would look into a higher wattage/amperage PSU.
As for 600w PSUs and above, OCZ and Fortron make some great units.

How do you know the PSU went? I have the same one and I'm thinking my died too. I press the power button and nothing. I sent an email to OCZ and haven't heard anything from them. I called the number and nobody picks up.

the easiest way would be to swap it out with another power supply or use a multimeter

OCZ has a pretty impressive warranty on their PSU's, and I am sure it would still be covered under warranty.
You shoot a PM to one of the OCZ reps that are on this board (ex. SteveOCZ) and I am sure he will be more than happy to help you out with your Powerstream. The OCZ guys are very helpful.

I know it's the PSU because I disconected everything from it, and then tried jumping it with a paper clip, if it worked and something else was wrong with the computer it would have powered on by itself. But nothing happend so, I'm thinking I need a more powerful one or something.

thats probabbly not a psu problem.

that psu is more than enough for your system, assuming you don't have crossfire. i would just RMA and keep the replacement if i were on your shoes.
ps i've used 520w ocz's to push intel dual cores to 6ghz
pps dont expect them to answer the phones or reply to emails on a sunday!

If I were you, I'd buy the gamerxstream. Especially if your MB has an 8pin connecter for the cpu. This powersupply hands down has to be one of the best PSU's ever made. They were smart and its one of the first power supplies that I've seen that has a CPU1 & CPU2 (both 4 pin) connecters that are on differen't rails, which you can hookup to your 8pin. Yes there are a lot of server psu's with this setup, but not many for gaming rigs.
I have the 700w version of this cpu and it barely even gets hot, and my system is pretty demanding.
820D @ 1.475v @ 266FSB (~200w)
1800XT @ 1.425v 700/800
3 Hard Drives
5 case fans (3 vantec tornado's)
2 cdrom's
exos2 cooling
multiple usb devices
I'm probably missing a few things (haha) but this PSU doesn't even stumble. If you want to be future proof, the 600w/700w would make a nice investment.
Yeah, I second that. Go for the OCZ GameXtream!
(still, I would go for the 600W. No offence but let's be honest: 700W is just overkill. Now AND in the future. even 600W is plenty. Current tendencies are more like less power consumption in stead of more... but hey, it's your money )

Funny thing, this JUST happened to me. I shut down my computer on a Friday night, left for the weekend to go to a wedding. Tried powering up on Monday evening when I returned, nothin. Diagnosed it same as you. Had it RMAed through Newegg as it was only 7 months old, just got it back yesterday actually. I still love this unit, even though it died on me. At least nothing else went with it!
If I were buying a new PS right now, I'd have to go with PC Power & Cooling's Silencer 610 (http://www.pcpowercooling.com/products/viewproduct.php?show=S61EPS)
49A on a single 12V rail. I don't like the all the split 12V rails very much, but it seems everyone is making them that way. I think PC P&C is higher quality than OCZ, especially the newer OCZ's--but that may just be my opinion.

I didn't think of this when it happend but, when I tired turning this on, I had just installed my new Tripp-Lite surge protector (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1044910&CatId=232). I'm now thinking maybe this has something to do with it. But, all my other router, modem, etc still works and they were plugged in also. Has anyone heard of this before?
I would have just RMA'd it to newegg right away, but I need something fast, so I ordered the gamexstream 2nd day air. Plus, the box and packaging stuff is in a storage bin, that I can't get to right now. So they wouldn't accpet it without that. I will still RMA it later when I can get to the storage and get the packaging. But for now I already ordered the GamexStream 700w. I'm still wondering if I should plug my new PSU into the Tripp-Lite surge protector (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1044910&CatId=232).....

I ordered mine through Newegg too. I thought after 30 days the manufacturer was responsible for a replacement. I just sent in a RMa to OCZ but I sent them an email on Sat and still havent heard anything from them.

For what it's worth, I agree with you on all counts. That PCP&C looks amazing as well.

WTF?
Hey whats the big difference in split rails and single rails, I'm deciding between the PowerStream 520W and the GameXstream 600W PS is single 33Amp and GXS is 18Amp I think in each of the 4 rails, where to go?

wow steveOCZ thats a amazing.
I knew i made the right choice buying a OCZ PSU, with customer service like that!
hope you stick around in case my 520 dies..
For what it's worth, I agree with you on all counts. That PCP&C looks amazing as well.
But compared to the 510 ASL, 610 silencer has 3% regulation vs 1% regulation, and the 510 ASl has .5% ripple vs 1% ripple for the 610 silencer. Granted there is a $70 price difference, but since a PSU is arguably the most important part of a good stableOC, why would you scrimp on a mere $70.00.
look at the 12v rails on them... 49a on the 610, vs 34a on the 510
True, but is there a real need for 49A? I mean that is 588(12V) watts! The 510 offers 408(12V) watts which is still a lot of watts. Plus it can provide 456(12V)watts under peak demand!

The 510 is rated a 50C while the 650 is rated at 40c.
If the 650 was rated at 50C like the 510, then the 49a would be a big plus over the 34a of the 510. The 510 has a 1/5th higher rating.
The PSU are 2 different beast really. The 510 is meant for max performance, while the Silencer is well, meant to be silent.
Either way, they are both great units.
I can vouch that when that 80mm delta tri-blade in the Turbocool510 gets going, it's VERY loud.
I used to have an old PCPCooling 410 Silencer and that thing was NOISY compared to my Fortron Blue Storm. Course my Blue storm is sagging to 11.7V with a 1.5V 2.6Ghz Opty 170, volt modded X850XT and a 3 Raptors :(
I need to buy a new PSU and it looks like a new noisy 510 is in my future!

I have never seen a powersupply die.... odd. A decent transformer should last 10 years, no problem.
I highly doubt it is the transformers dieing. I would assume/think a transistor fails or a cap leaks or some such, which of course opens a circuit, which then renders the PSU useless.
