HELP ME!!! I have been digging into this PC for a weak now, trying to squeeze more speed!!! I have an Abit BE6-II v.2 MOBO with a PIII 733-SECC2 CPU, stepping-3, 512mb MICRON 133 (CL-3? on Sandrasoft), attached to a 400watt PS surrounded by 2, 5" in-facing fans, 3 5" out facing fans, 2 3" fans on a HUGE heatsink and a partridge in a pear tree!

I have tried EVERY combination in the SoftMenu III bios setting with absolutely NO CHANGE IN PERFORMANCE!!!!! I have gone from 133 to 200MHz FSB and 1.65 to 1.90v core, and NO change... I have measured changes using SandraSoft 2000 and 3dMark 2000...... all changes result in the same scores... Sandra always shows my PC as 133MHz X 5.5 = 733MHz!!!! This is driving me INSANE!!!!! I know something is amiss here... is there a CPU mod I need to do.... Do I need to flash my BIOS... HELP!!!!

Thanks!

Looks like a bad BIOS to me, maybe try reflashing it. Do you have your "speed error hold" disabled? If not, this could be the cause of the problems. I think the latter is more likely the suspect. If that doesn't work, reflash the BIOS, but be careful with that. I've run into problems reflashing BIOS' before... don't get me started.

Welcome to OCer's.com :D
Are ya having any other probs besides that ? It sounds as though the bios isn't holding your options settings and reverting to default. I am not familiar with SoftMenu III as I am still using my old BX6r2, so I have to ask the obvious (dumb?) question like.....are you saving settings as you exit bios?

Hey guyz... thx for the info... To answer several questions at once... yes, I did "re-flash" the bios.. with no effect. I was not having any other problems, and yes..... I was saving the settings. The funny thing is, that the AGP is a 1x port, but when I would "overclock" the FSB, it would show up as a 2x..... so I'm guessing it was seeing something?

Here's the bad news... I downloaded and tried CPUBoost for BE6-2.. It rebooted and showed my PIII as an 802... as I had overclocked.. but windows would stop on "Windows Protection Error"... I played with voltage, AGP ratios, etc.... but NOTHING would bring the system back up... even in safe mode. So I reflashed AGAIN.... still nothing. Finally, I turned off the SoftMenu III and went with the DIP switch settings.. WOW!!! It's up!!!!

But, now it will not allow me to adjust ANYTHING for the CPU in the BIOS, with or without the DIP switches disabled.... looks like I may have a fried MOBO chp somewhere..... maybe my problem all along... and now it's finally belly up?!?!?!?!?

I'm up for now, but running ONE STOCL 733MHz... Oh, well........ NITE NITE

you may have been in jumper mode all along, go to your mobo manual and see if there ais a jumper turning on and off the SoftmenuIII...

There is one... the DIP switches are as follows:

1-3 = Multiplier (1.5-8.0)
4-8 = FSB (66-133)
9 = AGP Clock (2/3 or 1/1)
10 = SoftMenu III (enable or disable)

I had the SofMenu III set to enable for my first line of experiments..... Now, after the CPUBoost, it will no boot into windows (protection eror) unless I DISABLE the SoftMenu III option.... EVEN if the SoftMenu III is set to BIOS (and Intel) default for the PIII 733MHz....... :(

and I pull out some more hair..... as I get older I develop "male pattern baldness" and women develop a "dislike for men with male pattern baldness"...... :)

Before when I had not knowing anything about the computers ..

I tried to changed the bios and then ..

I found the reason!!

I WAS CHANGING THE MULTIPLIER ... Make sure you dont' change the multiplier.. Its locked.

Disable Speed Hold..

Dont change much cept for the FSB and the Voltage.

And after awhile when its stable trying changing to to CAS2 Ram...
