View Full Version : Which fans for tricore gts?
I will be using the tricore black ice rad. to cool my upcomming OC'ed conroe 6600 system. I will also be cooling my gfx card, which later, will be dx10, so this means it will run hot. I want to keep the system as quiet as possible. I also want to keep my cpu temps under 50c, and my video card temps under 60c. So I ask you this....how much cfm do I haev to pump through that radiator? I would buy the quietest fans as long as the temps stayd under that range. thnx
for example, would this 33cfm fan be enough?

i got the same question which fan is better perfermance/price ratio? Scythe S-Flex Fan 60cfm version or the YATE loon 40CFM version? also is the Scythe S-Flex Fan really push 60cfm at 28db?
the 47cfm yates will be perfect, and extremely cost effective (they're cheap as hell @ jab-tech right now)

The Yate 47's are $3.99 at Nexfan right now:

so depending on shipping, either jab-tech or nexfan would be your best bet.
I'm using 6 of them on a BIP3 and I can barely hear 'em.

hows Scythe S-Flex compare to YATE other than price?

the YATE uses .6 watts more energy and spins more than 500rpm faster and pushes an advertised 47cfm versus the 33cfm the s-flex puts out.
i'd get the Yate's and put them on a rheostat. you can make them inaudible for 1/5 the price of the scythe

I have the "F" version of the Scythe fans and they are great. I also have Yate Loons which are quieter and I like them better. They do a excellent job in a pull configuration.

but how does sychther sound lvl vs YATE about same, louder, or much louder? this is for the s-flex "F" version
Why not get a 80-100 CFM fan and run them on 5V when you are not pushing the PC and get far superior performance when you need it at 12V. My PA160 used to have 1 Panaflo L that I ran at 7v when websurfing and 12V when gaming. I have now upgraded to a "M" model and I run it at 5v(starts too) when websurfing and once I bump it up to 12V it cools my CPU and GPU by 2-5C better than the "L" because of the better airflow at 12V CFM. that way you get the best of both worlds.

a 100cfm fan at 5v unfortunately isn't as efficient as a slower speed fan at 7 or 12 volts, unless you are using a PWM controller instead of a resistor to change the voltage.
long story short, the PWM gives 12 volt bursts and spreads them out so the net effect is like 5volting the fan, but the electromagnets still get the full force of the 12 volt juice. pwm is cool stuff :0)
I have yate loons and I have the F scythe fans. At the same DB, the scythe do push noticeably more air. I don't know however how they compare as to pressure.
im probably getting a tricore rad. one of the fans will be push, the other two pull. which fans are better for this confog? the yates or scythe fans? btw...i do want this system to be as quiet as possible too.
