What? This isn't exciting at all. I don't want to play a cell shaded version of Team Fortress.

It's all in the game. The gameplay style of TF is well, fast-paced teamwork. TF isn't realistic or original, so they decided to spruce up the series a little bit. I think it'll be awesome.

OMG...The Spy and The Sniper look like friggin PIMPS! Man, the best part of HL/TF is the old school look...the Cell Shading brings it back...kinda, big plus in my book!

I can't wait for this game! Love the soldier with the spade though :P

Can't wait to play the scout

I personally can't stand the way it looks, but i like TF so if the gameplay is good i will fight through it.

I still don't see what is so exciting about cell shading, looks like garbage to me. This game just carries a "movie" look too much for my tastes.

It should be TSF2 - Toy Story Fortress 2.

From that short video it looks like it will only be a graphical overhaul...

Wait. That was Team Fortress? I thought that was The Incredibles 2...

To be honest, it looks pretty good. Think about it, we already got a flood of semi-realistic team based games out there. Think like the BF series, Warrock, RCTW, America's Army, etc. This is a good change from the rest of the games. :)

I'm thankful they did something differant with the models imo.Otherwise it would by just another CTF game. There really arnt any games with that 70s spy theme to it which is a nice change.

Fortress forever and TF2, I don't care. As long as I get to play TF... sweet sweet TF....
Preferably TF2, it looks like it could be alot of fun :D

I think it would make a good movie.

Goateh
07-19-06, 08:15 PM
hahaha, TF: The movie.

That would be wicked, would turn out to be a kids movie though sadly with the cell shading (although, games like XII proved me wrong). Would be nice to see, would like to see the game first :D

I want to know why they are using toy story graphics on an M rated game.

Goateh
07-19-06, 09:45 PM
Imho it would be a nice change of pace. Seems as thought its oriented towards a more fun style of gameply (which i think some games are lacking), reminds me of XII more than Toy Story though.
:D

Is Team Fortress made by Valve? I thought Team Fortress was just another run off of Counter Strike, but with more team objectives.

Goateh

The original TF was made by a couple of modders for the game Quake. Hugely popular.

Counter-strike kinda killed it off and Valve bought the rights (I beleive) and released TFC, Team fortress classic, which was essentially TF built on the HL engine. This was pretty cool, but no where near as good as TF.

TF2 was originally being made on the HL engine and there are even a few movies and screenies available on the planet fortress site if you wanna go have a look. Alot of people though it was dead because we had heard nothing of it, although just after HL2 came out there was word that it was being made on the HL2 engine. *yay*

So now its in the incarnation you see above, looks cool and fun. Should be good imho

Counter-Strike came out over a year or two after TFC for the original HL, not including the version for Quake (QWTF). TFC is in no way a 'run-off' of CS - besides the point that TFC was made by Valve developers for the original HL and CS was made by modders (to then later sell their product to Valve)

El-Scotto

CS is evil, it killed so many other mods that had a lot of potential :(

Goateh
07-20-06, 02:28 PM
CS seems to be slowing down in terms of the amount of people playing it (well, over here anyway). I'm hoping that TF2 is as much fun as the original, i loveded that game so much :p

All of these animations are from in game as confirmed by valve, so I can not wait to see what this is like to play.

hmm if they are in-game animations then they won't be anything contextual, just idle anims.

Oh, and Portal too!

WOOOW! After seeing that I'm REALY excited to play it. I think it looks awesome. I appreciate that they didn't take the realistic route and went stylized. I think someone said it before in another thread...if you want realistic TF play, then get fortress forever.

I think it'll be a lot of fun playing in this style, as long as the gameplay is still the same.

What!? If I want to play Toonrun, I will run svencoop, and what happened to it being set during the 6 hour war? I know it would have been yet another realistic tactical shooter, but Halflife 2 was at once yet another sci fi shooter and also the best 3D action game ever made. It would also have been nice to have another game fill in the blanks.

Portal sounds like a great original idea, but the video doesn't actually look very good, and the game upon which it is supposed to be based (Narbacular Drop) is complete rubbish. I can't be doing with more bloody artificial physics puzzles (it's why I gave up on on HL2: Episode One), rather than taking a highly advanced 3D engine and a now establised sci fi universe and then wasting that by making variations on a 3D 'move the blocks' puzzle game set witin it is frustrating.

I know Valve are trying to be original and different, and this is commendable, especially in a genre where many of their rivals (e.g. ID) refuse to move on in terms of gameplay from the Doom era, but different does not always mean good. The addition of pickpocketing to Oblivion was nice and felt original as were the strategic elements in Halflife NS, but say you took the Hitman games and made a large part of it that he had to manage his invesment portfolio to gain money for weapons, it would be new and original, but it would suck.

I appreciate physics puzzles, like the ones that where in HL2:E1
There was still plenty of gunplay and everything else. I think that, in a way, the physics puzzles help to immerse you a little bit. I mean if you were actually there, these are things that you would be doing to get you through the mess.

Best part of TF1 hands down= using the engineer grenades to launch yourself to certain places and then making a sentry gun. Great watching people run in, hear the "BLEEP BLEEP pow pow pow pow" and then they are dead, lol of fun.

Can't wait for this one loved the original one.

I personally love what they did with the graphics though. While it might not be as detailed as the original TF2 was suppose to be looks sweet. And I can see it now, some ingame movies made off this.

How is narbacular drop complete rubbish? It was a student made game, and was only proof of concept and not flashy or full by any means. The narbacular drop team was aquired by valve to make the "sequal" to narbacular drop set in the hl2 universe.

the animations were all done in the source engine but were coded just for the video so it won't really be in there for gameplay.

i don't see where it said those were idle/taunt animations. All it said was that it was done 'in-game' or through the source engine and doesn't say that they will be included in a client or be able to do them.

I think the opposite, IMHO they seem far more like a big silly section of bust-a-move than anything anybody might ever have to do IRL. Using a gravity gun to bounce energy balls behind indestructible metal screens doesn't come under my definition of immersive realism. I agree that physics puzzles COULD add to a game's realism (though I am yet to play one in which I feel it does), but they would have to feel a bit more integrated into the rest of the game and less like traditional 'figure out how to move the blocks' puzzles.

How is narbacular drop complete rubbish? It was a student made game, and was only proof of concept and not flashy or full by any means. The narbacular drop team was aquired by valve to make the "sequal" to narbacular drop set in the hl2 universe.

IMHO it is complete rubbish because it isn't ANY fun to play, and it didn't even seem promising. Just because something was made by students with little experince doesn't mean it should be lauded. I wasn't criticising the bad graphics, or flaky interface (though the former did give me a headache, which might have done something to bias me against it). I just thought that the whole idea sucked, original doesn't automatically mean good.
