View Full Version : Is there a "quiet" radiator/fan combo in existance ?

One of the reasons I switched to Water cooling was to get rid of that horrible fan noise... I got my little cheapo kit and what not and put it together and all seems well, tho it came with no radiator/fan combo, just the radiator - so I took it upon myself to build my own "shroud".

I can say it definately seemed more quiet without the shroud, but then again the thing is made of cardboard.

Does anyone know any good Links for stores that have good Radiator/fan combos ? and not the ones where they are right over the radiator ? I hear that's sort of bad and craps out the cooling potential too..

I'm thinking about a Koolance case, but if I can simply find a quiet radiator and fan assembly I can save a ton of cash.

If anoyne has any good specs for a shroud on a 12 x 5 radiator (using whatever size fan(s) will fit) that might be nice too, as long as I don't have to cut my arms off having to work with aluminum or something

I saw this "Box" lookin thing, that was basically a square box, with a hole in one side and a hole in the top, foam on the inside walls and the radiator/fan sat at the top .. seems like it would work nice, anyone ever seen or done anything like that ? if so is that quiet ?

what i will do and what most of us do is to run our fans at 7 volts instead of 12, this can be done by connecting the black wire of the fan(0volts) to the red (5 volts) of the 4 pin molex connector, this makes large fans silent

Yea I have heard of this too..

My fan however is some no name radio shack fan and I did do a little test with a 9 volt battery .. hopefully that would be the same as running it at 9 volts...lol

but it was definately quieter, however my temps fluctuated much higher, my concern is heat dissipation I suppose.

You guys think a 120mm fan rated over 100 CFM running at 7v would be loud much ?

I know I also saw a 151 CFM delta somewhere ..it was like 50dBa or something

Any suggestions on good high CFM fans that will run nearly silent at 7V ?

get a 120mm fan, most of them do around 100CFM, i have a few ys-techs doing 105 cfm ant 12 volts, at 7 volts they do around 60CFM and are silent

I'll definately do some fan research..

I was looking at other radiators as well, and this "low pressure drop" thing seems to be the new craze.. Any good info on those ?

I was thinking of maybe getting an Aqua coil or something similar to that down the road in a few month, but I think I will definately tinker around with a 120mm fan first.. and if it seems better I could probably build a new shroud and put a second one on there too.

Which bring sme to my second question, I could use a link to any sort of guide explaining how to do the 12/7 modification. one with picutes would be nice too,

Thanks.

i cannot fin anything the same but there is a guide here http://www.virtual-hideout.net/guides/7v_12v_baybus/index.shtml which shows how to make something more advanced
