View Full Version : windows XP desktop icons
this seems to happen quite frequently....once every few days...the icons will start sharing each others icon...just one...
if u can't read that (its a bit fuzzy from resizing) the program its pointing to is winamp
has anyone else seen this bug?
I don't have that bug but then again I don't run Winamp. Try the following - if you haven't already tried it.
Use TweakUI to rebuild the Icons.
C:\Documents and Settings\Marty Toomajian\My Documents\My Pictures\icons.bmp
I've only had one icon do that.. My starcraft icon would transfer to a Counter Strike icon.
yeah...i can use either tweak UI, powerstrip, or click properties and change the icon back....but its still a pain....
its not just the winamp...i've had pretty much each one duplicated at one time or another...
this exact same thing happened on my last fresh installation of XP before this one
hey -Will-,
how did you get that screen shot,
i have been trying to get screen shots from Sandra and other Benchmarking software

What did you do exactly? There's more to it then "Print Screen."
Try Print Screen then open paint and press paste and save.
Right, what I did was:
Print Screen
Open Paint
Edit, Paste in Paint
Cut out the part of the screen I wanted with the dotted line edit thing
Open a new BMP in Paint and then paste the cut out to the new BMP
There are also freeware and shareware programs that do this with more options and without opening Paint.

did you report this bug to MS by emailing your feed back in help and support ?
rebuild icon and it doesn't help ?
try to run this command line ok?
chkdsk /r at your C drive and choose rebuild icon when you are done
if it solves the problem, GOOD.....otherwise, report the BUG to MS

this has happend to me also. My shared folder for Kazaa and such would change to something else. This was out of nowhere. I dont like sending stuff back to microsoft so a qucik uninstall and install of the program fixd it.
I've been using xp for a while now and have yet to experience any sort of bugs like you are having. If you haven't already, I would recommend running the windows update. I did this just after installing xp, and there were like 7 updates that it needed. Just my $.02. Also, where did you get that wallpaper? It makes me laugh. hee hee.
Ya a cool desktop picture .. Matches the taskbar send me it :p

don't have kazaa but morpheus....its a little less buggy....but not by much
but i don't think its this program...because the last time i had windows XP installed before complete reinstall this same thing was happening...and i wasn't running morpheus on old machine (limewire)
the problem only happens when i come back from a full-screen game and it rebuilds them all at once
