By now everybody knows the Pentium D-805 is a solid overclocker. But what about the other chips in the Pentium D lineup? How do the higher chips stack-up compared to the 805? I've got an extra ten bucks to spare if the 950 is faster...

They are good oc'ers also. Where did you find a 950 for $10 more than an 805 cause I want one to? The 9xx series is superior to the 805 because they have double the L2 cache' and they are a 65nm vs. 90nm chip which runs much cooler.

930D stepping C1 (if it will be availible by the time you buy, the stepping that is)
chose your PSU and motherbord carefully.
If you just want monster clocks socket 775 celleries clock like mad (I havnt seen much in the way of benchmarks to show how well they perform at high clocks though :-/ )

900 series overclock very well, and run cooler than 800s.
The only reason why I bought a 805 was the price at release, it was by far the best bang for the buck I could get, OCing that chip gives performance much higher than 3800+ and I paid about 170 CAN for it (yes, I'm aware it dropped hardcore).
Now if I could choose I'd take a 930. Great overclocker, and quite cheap as well.

Thank you all very much. Here you go:

The 10 bucks was figuratively speaking :)
It's actually a little less than fifty bucks more. I'll probably get the 930 based on your advice or I might get the 805 to offset the price of the motherboard. (Go big or go home... I'm getting the P5WD2-E Premium.)
I'll have water cooling and all sorts of fancy jazz. Right now I'm having fun overclocking my Sempron 2600+... a dinosaur that I only bought a little more than a year ago... but I just won't be happy until I get it stable over 2ghz... (So that it can AT LEAST compete with the XP processor it replaced...)
make sure you get the c1 930 ... same or better OC's at much lower VC. I just got a few - oems ... not sure if the retials are c1 yet ... check before you buy. Much better than my older 930's.
oh ... and :welcome: to OCF :)

This is the nicest forum I've ever seen...
One question: How do I tell the difference between the c1 930 and the older one?

You wouldn't be able to tell if you bought it online.. (unless someone reports buying one at a particular e-tailer)
you would have to see the packageing lable.. I would have to do a search to figure out the 930D ##'s on the box.. its in the C1 stepping thread (d94 started it IIRC)

Can't find the C1 stepping thread. Can you link to it?
Thanks

(I think most of this thread is going to be thanks... "I'd like to give a shout-out to greenmaji... and everyone else who made all this mad MAAAAAAAD overclocking possible...)
As long as you buy from a high volume retailer, you should get the C1 stepping since they have been out several months. Even the old stepping Preslers like I have can be really good clockers.
