6800 GS???

I've looked on newegg for one since I am going to be waiting for the dx10 so I am just going to stick with an agp card so. I wanted to get a 6800 GS with 256mb and gddr3 also do they have ones with 256bit interface?

The card is discontinued.... was a short production run to get rid of leftover NV40 cores. Maybe find one on ebay or in the classifieds here.

well is the 6800XT better then the GS and can I unlock some pipes.

And would buying the x850 pro be better if I even got the pipes of the 6800 unlocked.

if you can unlock all of the pipes the 6800 will win over the x850pro

also the x800xl is better then the x850pro which it replaced. That is unless you can unlock the x850pro but if you buy if from ATi it will be a miracle if it flashes...

if your gonna buy a 6800xt get a 6600gt... my friends X2 4600 system can get 8500 in 3dmark03 with his 6800xt.... me with my 3.0ghz p4 northwood can grab 10009 in 3dmark03 with a 6600gt agp.... his is PCIe with twice the memory on the vid card!

I was in the same boat. I went ahead and got an eVGA 6800 AGP off of ebay and unlocked the 4 pipelines and the extra shader. It plays HL2 EP1 great at 1024 and 1280.

In my research, I found the 6800XT is NOT the card you want to get.

Thing is I have a 6800 agp but its not 256mb. If it was I would be able to play on high right now; My 3dmark03 scores are 10256 as off now with it Oced. I just don't know what to go for. I allready jumped ship 2 years ago to nvidia. I don't know if I want to go back to Ati. Although how would a 7600gs do?

Personally, I think that a 7600gs agp would be a nice stop-gap card to hold you over... should be a nice performer.

The 6800XT is a poor card, performance is utterly terrible in comparison to the 6800GT/U/GS. Id say it performs like a 6800LE but with SM3

I say, if you can find a 6800GS agp, get it. I know they now have a 7600GS in AGP, but it is not as good as you might think. Check this out:

yeh, FPS comparisons would be handy, although its bound to fall far short if it only has a 128bit memory interface

Maybe...then again look at the 6600GT, its memory interface is 128bit but in real use it works out pretty well. I've been told it's better than the 6800XT in real use which has a bit less clock speed but a 256bit interface. A long time ago when architectures were simple specs alone told most of the story now I think real reviews are more important. These days it might also depend on the specific card if one manufacturer uses better memory type or something.

also if I can buy a gs that would mean the only best thing I can do right now with an nvidia agp with $200

Ether way the 6800LE is poor even by AGP standards.

Id say find a good 7600GS, it should tide you over nicely until the DX 10 range of cards come out

Well I found a socket 754 board thats pcix so I am just gona get a 7600gt and I will be good to dx 10 comes out then I upgrade socket and memory and that good stuff!

eVGA has a nice 7600gs out for 109 on newegg, sorry no link. it also has a fan, which a lot of 7600gs's dont have.
