Conroe ES bug(s)?

Hi all

Found out a friend has access to engineering samples via a channel partner so (of course) am thinking of snagging one.

HOWEVER....I definitely recall seeing that one (or more?) of the ES cpus have some bugginess but can't find the article, forum post or whatever where I saw it mentioned.

Does anyone here know which ES cpu(s)/stepping(s) are the ones with bugs and which are 'the ones to get' (if any)?

It involves Raid 5 mostly and is suppose to be fixed with the retail stepping (stepping 6/B2)
So, you might have issues running Raid 5 with an ES, I havn't seen it done so I can't point you to a link

Thanks greenmaji! So....if I don't plan on running Raid5 then there are no issues with the ES chips? Historically, the ES cpus have been much better performers than their retail counterparts but want to be sure it's the case with the Conroes before pulling the trigger on the buy. Thanks again!

Usually retail outclocks the ES chips. The ES's that you see doing insane numbers are handpicked over 100s of chips. The B2 stepping should clock better than the stepping 4 / 5 ES's.

I didnt see any bugs with people running ES's but there were reports of Raid 5 issues.

If your paying more then retail for an ES, its not that wise of an investment IMHO

Thanks for the input you two. Sounding like I'd be better off waiting for the retail version (depending on what kind of deal can be had on the ES, of course).

Just getting real itchy to experience conroe;)
