From SETISpy FAQ (http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/faq.htm)
FAQ 2.17: Recently, the Update button on the User Statistics screen has stopped working, and the User Name hyperlink has disappeared. What happened?
I have tracked the problem down to the user_info.sah file, which SETI@home uses to store user information. My best guess is that due to recent security breaches, SETI@home management has decided not to include the user email address in the user_info.sah file like they used to. SETI Spy cannot update the user stats without the user email address. SETI Spy 3.0.6 and later provides a workaround, but you have to edit the setispy.ini file using the following steps.
Stop your SETI Spy if it is running.
Download the latest version of SETI Spy (3.0.6 or later) if you have not already done so.
Open the setispy.ini file in your SETI@home folder with a text editor like NotePad.
Add a line "BackupEmailAddr=youraddress@yourISP.com" just below the UserPercentage= line in the [Stats] section. Do not use quotes, and replace youraddress@yourISP.com with the email address you log into SETI@home with. The [Stats] section should now look something like the image below, with the added line shown in red. Don't worry of the lines are not exactly in the same order. Just add the BackupEmailAddr= line below the UserPercentage= line.
[Stats]
ResultsReturned=8424
LastResultTime=2452059.259375
TotalCPUTime=420883711.2
AvgCPUTime=49930
ResultInterval=7516.24251282177
GroupName=Team Ars Technica Lamb Chop GroupURL=http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_14240.html
LastCheckTime=2452059.25943948
TotalUsers=3053693
UserRank=3042
UsersSharingRank=0
UserPercentage=99.9
BackupEmailAddr=yourname@yourisp.com
Save setispy.ini.
Start SETI Spy 3.0.6.
FAQ 2.18: I get an "Error updating stats: Not Found" error when I try to update my stats. What is wrong?
This happens because the stats CGI scripts has been temporarily moved over to another server (iosef.ssl.berkeley.edu) while the SETI@Home team is sorting out some problems on the main server (setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu), according to the June 5, 2001 news report. SETI Spy looks for the CGIs on setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu and doesn't find it, so it returns an error at the moment. You can use the following workaround until the problem is fixed:
Use the Windows "Find" function to find the "hosts" (no extension) file somewhere in the C:\Windows or C:\Winnt folder tree. Make sure that the file extensions are displayed (not hidden), because there may be multiple hosts files with different extensions. Again, you want just plain old "hosts".
If the "hosts" file exists, go to step 5.
If the "hosts" file does not exist, there will be a "hosts.sam" file somewhere (probably C:/Windows in Windows 9x/Me or C:\Winnt\system32\drivers\etc in Windows NT/2000).
Make a copy of "hosts.sam" (in the same folder) and (re)name it to "hosts" (again, no extension).
Open "hosts" in your favorite text editor (Notepad will do).
Add the following red text to the end of the "hosts" file (all on one line):
128.32.18.175 setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu #temporary redirect to iosef.ssl.berkeley.edu
Save the file and close the editor. If you choose to "Save As", make sure that you enclose the file name "hosts" in double quotes to avoid saving it as "hosts.txt".
Voila! You should now be able to update your stats with SETI Spy (and SetiTeam as well.
Note: Please remember to remove the line as soon as the CGI scripts are transferred back to the regular server (setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu).
