Hi there,
after the thing with the Athlon XP didn't work i obtained an 1.4 TBird, but it is unoverclockable...it seems
my 1.2 worked at 1450 and so i hoped that that the 1.4 would run at least 1500 or more but...no way...
are 1400 processors locked? i though they were all unlocked....but i can't change the multiplier...not even below the original 14....
so i thought no problem lets change the FSB...but even an increase of 1 MHz makes the system unbootable....
i tried increasing Voltage and everything but it does not work...
does anyone know why?
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, I can't offer a solution, but I can say that I have the same problem.
My chip is unlocked but every time I try to go to 1.5 or higher, no go. It usually will post but then fail to boot. I too have tried to up the voltage without success.
My FSB is stable at 150 and my multiplier is 9.5 right now, but any combo that puts me to 1.5 GHz or above and it will not boot.
My problem might be my PSU since my 5V rail is around 4.8 now. Maybe the additional speed causes it to dip ??? That's just a guess, but maybe you could look at yours and see if that could be your problem.
I'm hoping someone else might have some ideas...

my 5V is also around 4.8-4.9 but i hope this is not the problem since the old processor went from 1200 to 1450...and that was no prob...
i just find it strange that my system does either not post at all or post with 1400...nothing else works...

What are your system specs? Mobo especially...
I have had several 1.4's, and not had one that wouldn't get over 1.5
All 1.2's and higher are unlocked.
Until you get to XP's ofcourse ;)

as written in my signature i have an IWILL KK266R....256MB RAM...GEFORCE2 MX...a THERMOENGINE FOR COOLING...a 400WATT PSU.....i don't think that it is a board prob since i've seen several KK266R in the database that overclocked this thingy....

I did notice your sug, but I don't asssume that is the system you are working on at the time. Loads of people around here work on lots of systems, and that would be a great thing for you to try. Do you have access to a different system you could try the chip in?

unfortunately not....i don't have enough money to buy a second system and all my friends...yes ALL of them...still use INTEL..although some of them seriously think about buying AMD as next machines....

I haven't had any problems with my chip. It runs really stable at 1.53 I have the multiplier set to 11.5 with no adjustment to the fsb and it runs very stably.
What stepping is this chip?
I've got two 1.4Ghz chips. The one in my 8K7A+ does 1.66 and the one in my 8KHA+ does 1.6 easily with only 1.92V and 1.96V respectively.

My Unlocked Athlon Tunderbolt 1.4GHz@266 is running at 1691MHz (11.5 X 147 FSB) Max speed right this very moment. Windows98 SE is running just fine in normal mode at this speed. I tried (12 X 141) to get 1692MHz and Windows only lets me boot up in safe mode stable. Here is my proof that I am at 1.69GHz useing a 1.4G TB::cool:
