okay everyone now and then (no matter what i am doing) i get the blue error screen of doom and the computer restarts, now the screen flashes on the screen to quickly to read. although i just recently formatted my hd and before this i had the same problem. my pc was a lot slower as you can imagine and i managed to read that the problem had something to do with the file win32k.sys, i can't be sure but i would guess that it is the same problem now. can someone please tell me what this is and how can i fix it?

Blue screens can be a number of things, but they usually involve file corruption.

This can be caused by bad ram/cpu, overheating cpu, bad motherboard, or a bad hard-drive.

When I see a blue screen, I use my "Ultimate Boot Cd" (search google), and first run memtest86 to check for cpu/ram/mobo problems. If that checks out I run the appropriate HDD utilitiy based on the brand of the hard drive.

If neither of these tests return an error try repairing your windows installation.

Which OS are you running (including any SP installed), and what are your system specs in it's entirety? If you're running an NT-based OS, open Event Viewer (in order to access the error logs, and check for any critical errors)... Start | Run | Type eventvwr.msc and click OK | Highlight "Application" and "System" independently in the LH pane | Right click a couple of the newest crtical errors you've received (critical errors are in Red), and select "Properties" | Copy and paste (use the "Copy to Clipboard" button under the arrow buttons in the Event Properties" window) a couple of the latest critical error messages as they appear under the "Description" field, and post them in this thread.

Also... open the System Information tool by typing msinfo32 in the Run box | Expand "Components" | Highlight "Problem Devices", and look for any problems that might be listed there.

Error code 10000050, parameter1 e030493c, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 bfaebe68, parameter4 00000000.
i found that in a system error log... would that be it?

Re-read my last post, primarily this part...

... and paste the log entry EXACTLY as it appears in the Event Viewer. Also what were your results when you opened the System Information tool to the section I specified?

and in the msinfo under problem devices i only found this Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_026E&SUBSYS_21271019&REV_A2\3&2411E6FE&0&59 The drivers for this device are not installed.

so that doesn't matter

i am running windows xp

sorry about all the trouble, i am sortof a newb to this stuff... i will try the memtest too... thanks for the help so far

ok well, it took me a long time to get memtest86 because my friend had to burn it for me. But it seems that i have a problem with my ram

i ran memtest and i got a bunch of errors...

so what now?

You can try and relax timings or reduce the RAM frequency.

Another source of problems could be the power supply. What brand, model and rating?

You have mainly 3 points where the cause of your memory errors could lie:pSU, mobo or RAM. Try to eliminate them one by one to find the culprit which you then have to replace.

well.... thanks for the help guys but i am just gonna go ahead and rma the ram because i have no way to test anything individually because this is my only comp and none of my friends have ddr2 mobo's...... i guess i will just see what happens
