Sound Activated Neon Mod

Here's a mod I did to my puter while I am redoing things. I bought a 10 inch Blue neon and a 15 inch red one from Auto Zone. I took them completely apart and soldered new wires on the tubes the put a piece of shrink tubing over that. Then you can mount the tubes where you want. I took the circuit board out and removed the condensor microphone from the board and added some longer wires to it. This is the part that makes it work the best. I drilled and mounted the boards to a front panel and secured them with hot melt glue. I added a radio shack spdt switch and put the mikes where they protrude through the panel to the outside. The potentiometer sensitivity controls are also outside. You can adjust the controls for sensitivity and the lights flash to music, talking, walking, or a good belch. Looks neat when playing a game as every shot will trigger the lights. I found the mics need to be outside the case for best operation. You can flip the switch and have them on steady if you want or turn down sensitivity and turn them off. Here are some pics.

The small panel on the top is the one I used, but you could use a drive bay.

The 10 inch is 18.99 and the 15 inch is 19.99. I got them at Auto Zone of all places. If you have one around at least there is no shipping charge.:beer:

thats awesome....i don't think we have one around here ( checked yellow pages) but even with shipping they'd be cheaper the pcmods or other places i've seen

cheapest 10 inchers were 25 + shipping


i'll probably not try that mod u did for a while as im VERY tight for cash right now....but it seems really cool and i'll save this thread for a bit so i can do it later

i don't suppose you did a sketch on paper or a paint diagram of your setup?

if not im sure i'll probably be able to figure it out on my own :)

Like that front light Max. The automotive ones work fine. It is better to disassemble them though. Got another mod to show you maybe tomorrow.

Yeah I had to disassemble mine to get it to fit in there if you want to call it that,I actually had to break those plastic ends of the light tube to remove it from the glass.The one side with the electronics came apart easy but the glue was to strong on the other side.I was going to put mine in my case but then I saw it would fit in the front bezel in between the case,this way I save space inside.I really like how you put the sensitivity knobs there in the front though,thats pretty sweet.

Hey mw521, thats the exact same case i have. The front panel is different, but the case is the same. With that funny system for the expansion slots.

I GUESS THAT FRONT FAN CAME LIKE THAT BUILT IN??? IF NOT HOW DID U DO THE GRILL I GOT AN ALIEN WARE HYDRO I WANA DO A TUBE LIKE THAT W A BIOHAZARD GRILL ON THE BOTTOM

I GOT A 10INCH NEON LIGHT FROM WALMART FOR 10BUCKS IN THE AUTO SECTION THEY ARE STILL THERE IN ALL WALMARTS I THINK :D
