View Full Version : how to get 100 comps w\T3 to join setti
i was just wondering if there was a way to run all the comps at my school for seti without anyone noticing?
never have done this type of stuff before, but i think it would be great
over a 100 comps on a T3 and 2 T1's
and there all 1ghz machines or better
and i have access to the network there, so opening ports and reconfiguring the firewall can be done if needed:cool:
Well, using SETI along with SETIStash will allow you to hide all icons that would normally show up in the Taskbar for concealment purposes.
However, I wouldn't do anything that might get you in trouble so I would just ask whoever's in charge of the network if you can run SETI on it.
If the computers are running NT or 2000 you could setup Seti to run as a service completely in the background. You really ought to get permission though. There's a legal case here in Georgia where a guy was running RC5 on the school's computers and when they found out they decided to suit him for cost of internet access. The charges really are absurd, but he's in a mess all the same. Be careful what you do.
thanks for warning, but i have a professor who's head of the Computer Science Department and he used to work for NASA and did some Seti stuff too
i wonder if i couldn't get him to let me and even make it an independent study class and get an easy 3 hour credit
i'll keep you informed

Good luck with it. You could be cranking out some serious numbers. Hmm... maybe I need to go back to school. :D
Definately get explicite WRITTEN permission but it would be a great addition to our team (any team).
Good luck.
