If i am uploading something will effect my download speed? I am constantly downloading 500mb+ files and all the programs i use dont like it if all you do is download and dont upload. any help?

What type of connection?
I have a cable modem. The Upload and Download are independantof each other.

If the upstream is saturated by uploading and you try to download, acks can't get through and thus get delayed. If the acks aren't recieved in a timely manner by the sever you are downloading from, the packets are registered as lost and will be retransmitted -- thus reducing your download speed.
Cap the upstream at 'X' (X being a number you're comfortable w/).

It depends on the programs that you have running. I know that you can cap the upstream on eDonkey2000 (http://www.edonkey2000.com), WinMX (http://www.winmx.com), and AudioGnome (http://www.audiognome.com), and I know you can cap it if you're running IIS, but other than that, I don't know if it can be done.
