I'm looking for creative ideas as to how to deal with alot of hard drives. I'd like the overall machine to remain as quiet as possible, and i woud perferr at least mild active cooling on all drives. (I have over 10 drives, and would like to set up a raid5 on 6 or more of them)

Looking for the most effecient cooling method for many drives. I have no case for the mobo, it just sits on a shelf in my clost... the drives are currently bolted into a hollowed out case to keep them with as much surface area as possible... but without proper airflow they just get too hot on high usage (which raid5 would promote)

I've got pretty much a whole closet and can build anything i need, so get creative, but K.I.S.S. as always.

Drives are IDE, so cannot stray too far from the system.

One option which I'm doing ... get an old SCSI JBOD rackmount enclosure off fleabay or similar. Rip the guts out and use the trays at the front for the hard drives, mount the motherboard in the back. Mount a line of 80mm fans inbetween for cooling. IBM EXP15's work great for this :)
