Flashing a 6200

I have a eVGA Nvidia 6200 256mb AGP with the NV 43 core. Is there some way that I can flash it to be like a 6600? The nv43's are laser cut, i do believe only some of the nv42's unlocked.

I'm pretty sure it depends on your revision. I have a 6200 that the pipes unlocked on, no problem (I think it's a 6200, that was 3-4 upgrades ago) . But if you cannot get RivaTuner to unlock the pipes via nvstrap then it will not work to try to flash it to an unlocked state.

Assuming you are using RivaTuner right and doing it correctly ... if it is still not unlocking, it never will.

upload your stock bios there along with your card name memory interface size ect and ask them there.

You can ask over there, good people. But I have been down this road. If Rivatuner will not open the pipe, the pipe is not masked ... if the pipe is not masked no BIOS change will make it a masked pipe and therefore useable.

Also, if it had a masked pipe you always want to test it with software (rivatuner) first because there is no gaurantee a masked pipe is a good pipe. Sometimes a 6600 core becomes a 6200 because not all the pipes are stable. Know what I mean? so if you were to flash it before testing it with software first you could very well end up with an unuseable card.

Software unmasking has to work before you can do a permanent BIOS flash for it.

make sure you save your current BIOS first .. and have either a bootable Flash disk with a script handy, or a PCI graphics card.

then I think the command is NVFlash (Biosname) -4 -5 -6 if I recall correctly, after booting to a bootable floppy and putting your NVflash diskette.


just run nvflash /? to confirm the switches and details.. it's been a long time.

Be causeful, you can hose your card. I have done it.

and again, if your trying to flash a masked pipe ... it will not work if it cannot be unmasked first Via software on a 6200. If Riva cannot make it unmask on a 6200 ... it is not a usable pipe period.

make a bootable flopy with with nvflash on it...there site has a guide for this lol.

i think its the command when you boot from the floppy nvflash -b biosback.rom

from your bios they will be able to tell you if you can unlock it and flash it to a 6600.

side note if you mess up flashing your card just chill. allways have the cards original bios on the floppy. if it messes up " i dont this" just let the pc load you probly wont be able to see anything then type in nvflash -4 -5 -6 biosback.rom and hit enter then hit y " i think or maybe enter i havent used it in a while" then the num lock cap lock and scroll lock leds on your keybord will start blinking then when thats done wate about 60 sec then restart and you should be ok.



but first just back up your bios and upload it and let them look at it on the forum i pointed you to. if it cant be unlocked they can help tighten your timeings and enable temp monerting for ya.
