How accurate/inaccurate is MBM5? I'm working on getting a digital doc as soon as I'm done with the rest of my christmas shopping for other people. Been reading reports where people state that these reading can be off by as much as 10-15 degrees C.

Also how do most built in motherboards guage temp changes? Is there an actual temp probe placed on the board or are they guestimating based on the amount of voltage passed through the processor? (Techie friend of mine possed that question :) )

Athlon ssystems have an under chip probe, these are very inaccurate - hence the inaccuracy in mb, it just reports what the sensors say.
pentium systems have an internal diode which is used to measure the temp, these are considerably more accurate than the under chip probes as they are actually in the meausred section rahter than having a chunk of ceramic to throw the readings off

ok, thanks. That's what I was afraid of.

Once I get Digital Doc where/how should I place the sensors for the best/most accurate readings?

This article (http://www.overclockers.com/articles449/) should have some good tips. :)
