View Full Version : Major Noise Problem
Hi everyone. I just bought two different delta fans. Ive always heard about their noise problems but I didnt realize it would be THAT noisy. I have one sucking in air from the rear of the comp and one that is on top of my volcano 6cu+ ( i took off the thermal take fan). I also have a twin turbo drive bay fan. ONe more standard case fan sucking in air, and I have 7 fans total!! I know this is not that much compared to others but my computer is REALLY loud now. the deltas are about 50 decibels each, add 40 for the twin turbo, and you guys can see what I mean. Do you guys have any suggestions to lower the sound volume. Is there any cushioning i can put in the case to deaden out the sound?? thanks

Run slower, larger fans.
If you have a 120mm fan and an 80mm fan the 120mm fan has to spin a lot less quickly to push the same air, hence less noise.

Or consider insulating your case, and mounting the fans on rubber washers to damp out vibration.......
how would you insulate the case?? Right now...the computer is on the desk where it is at ear level, since I do not want to take out fans right now, I am considering moving it to the floor. It will take space next to my Yamaha MS50 (which are awesome by the way). But I know that having two loud things doesnt mean it will cancel each other out. And also, can you give me a link to the rubber dampers?? I do think that it will help, since when the fan is out, it is resonating the whole case... Thanks a lot guys...keep the inputs coming!

Case insulation should be done carefully or you can massively increase your temps.

Moving it underneath the desk will be a good start. Use O rings as washers, or make your own from a bicycle inner tube. As to insulation, sheets of closed cell foam (Dynamat is available from car audio stores) stuck to the insides of the case will dampen out some of the noise.
im thinking of changing the voltage from 12V to 7 V. Will this help a lot?? Right now...the temps are good so i can live with a couple degree increase if the noise will go down because I simply cannot live with this loud of a comp.

yes that will reduce noise significantly, I wouldn't recommend it for your cpu fan though.
ok, I moved it down, and yes, that helped a lot because the computer was no longer at my ear level. But, it is still VEry loud!! If I do the voltage change to the rear exhaust fan, what drops would I have in performance??

Hard to say, try it and see.
