i am building a new system for a friend and his wife....they use it for music..picture editing spread sheets and the like...my point is no gaming..but i am trying to make it "add on\upgrade" friendly...this is what i have

asus m2n-e
athlon am2 x4600
2gb corsair xms-pc800(6400)
2x 74gb raptors
creative x-fi
video in the air but prolly radeon x1800xt

so i need a psu....i was looking at enermax whisper...the antec truepowerii(480w) or smartpower(500w)...or fortron bluestorm(460w)

any pros or cons like i say not a game unit

thanks guys

Well if they're not gaming or overclocking, just go with a nice FSP power supply. I have an AX450-PN, and it works great

Also, if they're just picture editing, why do they need 2 raptors or an X1800? Seems like a little bit of an overkill for such a project.

Grab something on the lower end, a couple big SATA hard drives and a Radeon X1600 or whatever. My point is - The computer you've built is made for gaming hehe.

Maybe something like this:
FSP Power Supply
X1600 Series Video Card
AM2 3800+ X2
2GB Corsair DDR2 (Not high performance)
Sound Card, depends if they're going to be listening to a lot of music or care about sound quality :p
Motherboard you've chosen seems fine

Just my 2 cents.

The FSP gets my vote.

thanks for the replies guys...yea i know the board is a little more than what they need...i just wanted to make it upgrade friendly if things change...they wont need to get a new comp for a while if not

i can go with a lesser video card. that is an option and i havent dicided on the audigy2 or the x-fi plat(prolly the plat)..the reson for the raptors is one will be all music and the other the os.

thanks tho i will look at the fsp

wait, raptors? Really though, they do not need that kind of speed, and i'm sure they will not want to sacrafice storage space for speed they do not need at all.

Get them one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148140

They're really quick, some say they even rival the raptors.

And there's also absolutley no need for an x1800xt.

Also, what speakers do they have? If they're nothing great, then the x-fi probably isn't needed either. Just dont buy all of this flashy stuff they don't need because you want to have some fun putting it together.

Seasonic makes some rocksolid PSUs that are also known as being some of the quietest on the market.

mr roboto...i am not getting the 1800 now i am getting the 1600..as far as the raptors..well maybe more than i need..i just want the comp to be as good or better than they need.....the sound card is to be hooked up to some infinities and the comp room......not trying to be flashey they dont knw the diff...and it's a house warming gift.......\\

with that said we wired the whole house with speakers in every room and to cat 5 lines in every room(one for phone and one for internet access) he has a media(theater) room and we have all that setup he does have tx-nr900..

so you see i am setting this up to pipe info throughtout...i my be wrong...beut really not trying to be flashey just trying to give them what they Might need
