I was trying to burn a cd and halfway through XP just rebooted itself. Thinking it was a fluke, I tried again and got the same results. I haven't had this trouble before with XP, and have burned cd's. Any ideas?

what programs are you running in the background or when you're burning it ? Try shutting them down and restarting the burn (try on a CD-RW until you figure out what is causing this problem, so you don't scrap another CD !)

NO programs were running in the background. I made sure they were all closed the second time around.

is your system OCed ? I've seen some computers (including mine !) that sometimes restart if they don't have enough voltage or cooling

What burning program are you using ? Maybe it's causing a conflict with other hardware or software

that's scary :)
try this step to see if it solves your problem ok?
FIRST.........use another burning software like NERO 5.5 or something like that to see if you can burn it successfully without restarting
if yes, there is something wrong with your burning software....
if no, follow the step below:
type msconfig in run....and choose diagnostic start up and restart the computer
when you are on the desktop, try to burn the CD to see if your computer restart itself or not ok?
if you are successfully burning the cd, try to disable everything at start up by uncheck load start up........and burn the cd to see if you have problem
keep doing that with SERVICE or programs at start up until you isolate the problem.
good luck........let us know if you need further assistant.
