I'm configuring a new system for my younger brother, and I'm going to give him my 1.4 Thunderbird. I want to get something faster for mine now. But how much better is the 1.9 than the 1.8. Is the diference really worth the high price?

Personally, I'd wait for the Thoroughbred, but that's just me:burn:

I haven't heard much about ocing with the 1900+, but if I had to buy an 1900+, I'd wait a bit till they lower prices. but if you want to get 60MHz in plus @ default, so you could overclock higher, than I'd go with the 1900

From what I've been reading, the 1900 may be designated as 1900 because of better fabrication results. Meaning that as they make batches of CPUs, some perform better than others, so they get different designation with internal ocing done at the fab.

IF this is the case, then you may not be able to oc the 1900 as much as the 1800. Which means that after ocing, you'll get even less than the 60MHz.

So I agree with Minoukat about waiting for a new core. If I needed a CPU now, I wouldn't pay $65 more for a 1900.

thanks for the suggestions. If what you say is true, then even 60 extra mhz is DEFINATELY not worth paying over a dollar per mhz! But what is this new processor you speak of? How soon do you think it will come out?

check AMD's roadmap, they are saying it should come out Q1 of 2002 : http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104_608,00.html

I've been able to turn my 1900xp up pretty good so far, my vid-card is overheating though and that's what is holding it back from going higher.
