Running Win98 SE and just upgraded my Internet Explorer from 5.0 to the latest 6.0. Afterward, I noticed that some desktop icons had gone blank. They now show the "missing icon" image. These are: My Computer, Recycle Bin and Network Neighborhood. I did a repair from TweakUI but they didn't come back. Can't find anything on the Microsoft site except the stupid remark, "Microsoft has determined that this is an issue." Well DUH! Tell me how to fix it Mr. Bill! I already know it's an issue!

Anyone else had this happen and how did you fix it short of reinstalling Windows? There is no way to point to an icon from these particular desktop shortcuts by right-clicking. Maybe in the registry somewhere?

And another thing I just noticed after trying to post this message 10 times!!! - The security seems to be severely screwed up now as I can't even stay logged in from one page to the next! Had to fire up the ol Netscape again. What's up with that? Why did I upgrade?! Somebody shoot me!

if MS say it's an issue, there is nothing you can do............you can continue using IE 5.5 :)

right click on the start button select explore..

Double click on desk top and see if my computer is there if it is drag it to desk top.if not

see if in the list on the left MY Computer shows up...

If it does drag it to the deks top and it will create a short cut for ya.

U have something corrupted.my repairs will not correct these issues...thay buy u time before a reformat ..

One of the nice things about the latest IE is that it will let you allow cookies on a per site basis. So I allow this sites cookies but not all.

Go to Tools - Privacy - Web Sites

and add:

overclockers.com
overclockers.ws

Just download and run adaware and then you can tell us:burn:
If you just allow the sites you want then you don't have to worry about bad cookies.

Thanks for the cookie tip. I missed that new item. I allowed the OC site and logged in again and it held. I was afraid I'd hosed the install somehow.

Now to scan the registry to see if I can find those missing icons...
