i just overclocked my duron750 to 1ghz(7.5 x 133). System "looks" stable at 1.81v. at idle 42 degrees. at 52 degrees after 3dmark 2001. fan using globalwin fop32-1. now, is this temp too hot? will changing fan to fop38 and adding artic silver2 help? lastly, is there any programs to test the cpu stability?

Not too hot but you could use a little better cooling. Generally we like to keep temps for AMD chips under 50C full load.

An FOP38 is basically the same thing with a Delta fan. I would go with a copper heatsink such as the SK6 or if you want to save a little, the CBG38 fromSVCompucycle.com (http://www.svcompucycle.com) is an excellent heatsink for the price.

The Arctic Silver could only help as well...

As far as stability tests go, if you really want to put it under a strain I would suggest trying SETI, Folding@Home or Prime95. Sandra also has a built in "Burn-in" utility that really stresses pretty well.

Hey Jon! How many times do you have to smash your head into your monitor's poor little ol screen man? You must have a really big headache after all that head butting! Replacing all of those monitors must be costing you millions!!!:D

Nice oc! 250 free mhz is always a good thing!

I don't track idle temps because my rigs don't idle- ever!

But I run into crashes when I get load temps around 50c.

You don't say what your case temp is, but I'd suggest improving your cooling: case temps between 25 /30 c and load temps 40 /45c are what I try for under load.

Some others around here run at higher temps with no trouble, so the biggest thing is that your pc is stable.

Last note from me: different mobos/sensors and even bios revs can show temps that are vastly different so you can't completely trust the readings without checking another way: I use an indoor/outdoor thermometer for case temps (if thats accurate I'll trust the cpu reading too!) And I also use an infrared for hot
spots.

As far as burn in programs: I'd like to recommend SETI@Home or Folding@Home: both can keep your cpu at load!

Or SiSoft Sandra, which I've used, or Toast, which I haven't used.

Some motherboads can display higher or lower CPU temps. If I didn't know that my MoBo is infamous for "High" readings, I would be very worried. When you get time add your system details to your sig, it can give us a better idea of any help we can give. A nice OC, wish I could get 250 extra.

I caught my T-Bird running at 58c running SETI. It was running fine, but that was to hot for me. I dropped the vcore and it's running steady at 48c!
