View Full Version : Who sells nibblers?
I want to cut some designs on my case, and I hear a nibbler is the tool. Anyone know where to buy?

I really think a nibbler is only good for plastic and aluminium, but that's my opinion.
Radio shack sells 'em for 10 bux, I think. That's where I got mine.

Thanks Brian. What do you use for steel? There must be some way to cut an intricate design without marring the product...

A dremel and some needle files.

Definatly dremel. I use mine for everything. Cut from the back of the case, i.e. the side on one will see, and you should have no problems whatsoever.
People usualy have poblems withe curves, but here is a tried and true method: Draw your design on the back of the panel. Then lightly touch the dremel to the surface of the metal all along the line, making a smooth, continuous scratch in the metal. Now, for tight curves, touch the spinning blade to the metal along the line, just moving up and down, not side to side. Just touch, pick up, touch, pick up, etc... You will end up with the 'bottom' of the wheel breaking through the other side of the case all along the line. This way, you can make a curve as tight as you want.
HTH!
La Grande, eh? I used to hike in the Eagle Cap every fall. Union is a rockin' place. :D
Radio Shack has nibblers, although sometimes you can find the same exact one at Home Depot for 1/2 the price.
I use nibblers to cut out the hole, and a Dremel to finish it up and make it look nice. Nibblers are neat tools, but they cannot cut a straight line!:D
Nibblers will cut the thin metal of a case just fine, I used the Radio Shack specials to trim on mine. I cut some larger 120mm holes and roughed them with some tin snips and trimmed with the nibblers, then final finished with some drill burrs I ported and polished my heads on my engine with.
