hey guys. Building a system for someone. I ordered the gigabyte NX73G128D, which is a 7300GS (link here (http://www.pccyber.com/scrItem.asp?product_subtypes_id=572&product_types_id=26&product_id=9447)). Now I know that, in general, the 7300 is ok for games. Its not the best, but being based on the latest Nvidia core (I assume, anyway) it should have all the technology they have, minus the awesomeness and performance.

I also know that Gigabyte is very good, at least with Mobos, being one of the few mobo companies I trust to have quality. Does anyone have this particular card though? Or any pros or cons on the 7300gs or gigabyte? I am curious, as I want to get the best bang for this guy's buck, and I dislike Nvidia, so I am bias :).

This isn't for ultra gaming btw. Its more for gaming now and again.

And i'd still not go below a 7600GS for gaming every now and then. For more frequent casual gaming i wouldn't go below a 7600GT.

I can understand a 7600GS being nice and all, but I hardly think its necessary. the 7300GS isn't useless, infact it performs quite well for a low end. Hell, in SLI it runs great.

But in this case it is neither needed, nor afforable. I am just looking for some ups and downs of the 7300GS.

It's not going to play any of the newer games maxed out at any decent res, you might have to settle for 800x600 medium settings if that.

Well this is a card for a middle aged man who likes to gmae but doesn't want to spend alot of money :). I mean, do you not find this bugger fast enough to play HL2 and stuff at a max of maybe 1024x768 medium detail?

If you think that card will suit him I guess it will I wont try to convince you to upgrade although I personally would.

I like Gigabyte cards because IMO they offer the best silent cooling options on the market followed by MSI. Just put a 120 mm fan by the hdds to cool them down and the video card will never get hot at all. Also silent cooling is always a good thing to have in mind when building other people systems if they dont need the latest and greatest hardware.

the 7300gs is pretty slow. two overclocked 7300gs to GTish levels is alright.
