I was reading another thread in which someong was trying to figure out how to use parts from a broken microwave in his comp when it hit me. How cool would it be use an old microwave as a case. You could go here (http://www.matrix-orbital.com/serial-vfd.htm) to get a VFD, put it where the clock normally goes and have a computer that looks like a microwave. Any thoughts?
Yes I know that you'd have to be really careful to not get some major zappage from the capacitors.

that would be a cool mod.
you could use the number pad for something, maybe a bay bus.
If I were you I would worry more about the reactor in a microwave, DONT TURN IT ON WHEN IT DOESNT HAVE A COVER,and the voltage shocks(which you have already mentioned)
good luck:D

I dunno. Maybe I could make a microwave gun for when it got cold. JK; I'd never be crazy enough to turn on a microwave when it was taken apart. I wonder how hard it would be to play with the keypad and what the best use for it would be.
Also, what's the best tool to cut a very well-defined hole in a sheet of metal? (Yes I'm a newbie, but I'm not going to start this until I know what I'm doing.)

I would use a dremel they are just the greatest, but you need alot of patients.
Somepeople drill the out line(with a normall drill) and then use a sander to sand down the edges(or if you have access to one use a laser cutter). If you have a lot of cutting you may want to try a jigsaw(i have never tried this).
Metal files(especially the small ones) will help you get that smooth perfect look.
Hope this helps:D

Yes, that helps. I want to know the best way to make some holes in a microwave so that I can get all the wires and cables in there and out the back.

I was thinking that you were talking about making holes for a window or a fan, but if it is only for cables use a drill (for ide cables use a bigger drill bit) and go crazy:D
for round holes use a hole saw and the clean up the shap edges with a dremal much easier and a lot faster.
