Hey guys,

My room is in a basement, and during the winter it gets really cold. Is there a possibility of condensation with reguar water cooling?

I don't quite get condensation. :(

There is a possibility but I would say that unless it gets REALLY cold you shouldn't have a problem. You get condensation when you have an object that is colder then the ambiant temperature, and since your PC will be sucking air that is no colder then your ambiant temp you shouldn't see any condensation.

It all depends on the humidity level in the basement. We have our family computer down in the (unfinished) basement along with some other office-type equipment and have had no problems at all. We do use a dehumidifier though, and it makes a couple gallons a day of water. It gets pretty bad w/o it.

With your setup, there will be no condensation possible, no matter what the humidity is.
Since the computer and watercooling system will ALL be above ambient temp anyway (no matter what temp that is), there's no risk.

Condensation comes only with the equipment temp being colder than the room air temp.

Hmm, see I use a Humidifer too in my room. Calgary is a very very dry place. That won't help things.

Ok wait.. it shouldn't matter that I would be using water though, because with air coooling there is no problem, so why would there be with water. It's only when the water is cooled lower than the room temp you have a problem?

But I can't get colder than room temp, so it should be fine.

But inside the case, it will be warmer than the rest of the room. The water will be cooled near the temp of the air outside the case.. then inside the case it will be a cold object I suppose. But with good case airflow, it shouldn't get much warmer than the room temp in there..

PC in your basement will not be a problem in Calgary
Im in Calgary and my PC's have been in a unfinished basement for over 2 years

schnikies79 used a dehumidifier To remove water out of the air
where as you and I have a humidifier to put water into the air
due to Calgary being so dry

so dont worry, even with water cooling iv never had a condensation
your need to get your PC below room temp for that to be a problem
