You can't really compare DDR vs. DDR2. They have different number of pins, so they are not interchangeable. What motherboard do you have and which RAM does it support?
DDR2-1066 with 4-4-4 timing is open a can of W/A timings and definitly worth it. The only way that the DDR400 at 2-2-2 is going to beat "that" 1066 is if the 400 ocs to 600 at 2.5-3-3 or better. More than likely the 1066 memory will do 2.5-3-3 at 550 to 600 anyway and not be stressed.
I don't HAVE a board. =D I'm just trying to decide whether to upgrade what I have, go top-of-the-line 939, or if the ludicrous prices are really worth it for AM2
Alot of AM2 boards are having serious issues with even DDR800 right now I'd be damned if I went DDR1066.
Right now for AM2 buying DDR800 ram and clocking it down to 667mhz and tighening the timings is the best route you can go for the money.
On an MSI K9n nforce570 board I couldn't get it to run stable at DDR800 even with 5-5-5-15 or 6-6-6-20 timings when the ram was rated for 4-4-4-12.
I went downt to 667mhz and set clocks to 3-3-3-10 and overclocked my friends AM2 3800+ to 2.7ghz stable on stock HSF and I've found a serious sweet spot.
