Hey all, you guys seem to be about the brightest free help around so I'll ask you my question :)

I'm not overclocking this PC (yet!) but I just put in an ABIT KG7-RAID with a Athlon XP 1900 cpu, got a VisionTek GeForce3 video card. After a few minutes in a game (any game it seems) I get a random lockup and have to restart. When I get back up and running I can check Event Viewer and see that right before the lockup I got these twp messages:

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

AND

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0xcf8), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

I'm using the 22.80 nvidia drivers, got all my critical updates for XP, newest DirectX, etc.... Microsoft does have a knowledge base article on this error (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q283/6/49.ASP) but alas, it doesn't have any resolution.

Any help or advice you guys could give would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Mal

Oh yeah, and I have flashed the newest BIOS update too (5W).

OK.. Usually if you change motherboards and still running the same OS it'll most likely cause problems I would suggest a clean Windows XP install.

It is a clean install :(

I FDisked after i upgraded everything and used the WindowsXP Pro setup prog to format the 80gb partition NTFS.

Try re-flashing your bios..

I think it was a bad reflash or something.

Just re-flashed it with the newest flash (5W)... Got back in DAoC and it locked up again, Event Viewer shows the same error messages as from the first post :(

I'm starting to get annoyed with this new AMD, maybe I shoulda stuck with Intel /sigh

have you tried rolling back your Video Driver to 21.83 or lower... I had that blue screen prob b4 when I used 21.88 drivers.. I rolled back to 21.83 and never seen the blue screens again....

did you try to DISABLE ACPI and APM in the BIOS ?

if not do so, and try to re-install windows XP to see if you solve the problem

after you do that, go to safe mode, don't choose ACPI uniprocessor in device manager, CHOOSE Standard PC.

Contact with your motherboard about this issue so that they can release some kind of future updates

good luck

Thanks for your replies guys, I feel I'm getting closer and closer each time I try something hehe.

I tried rolling back the driver and none of the previous drivers (there was only 1) worked either.

As for blue screens, i'm not getting any. The game just locks up (or 3dMark2001, whatever) and the sound goes into an infinite stutter.

I've checked the Power Management area of the BIOS, there isn't an option to disable it all together, I can just disable each feature (hard-drive suspend, etc). I've disabled them all and still get the lockup :(

I've also sent ABit a technical support email, no reply yet.

Thanks for the ideas guys, keep em coming!

Does anybody know how to totally disable ACPI in the BIOS? In past motherboard BIOSes there was an option to disable all bios controlled ACPI, this doesn't seem to be the case with the ABit KG7-RAID

it's under power management........check with your mobo manufacture manual book for it..........if this ABIT mobo causes you a lot of troubles...........why don't you get another mobo.........like ASUS or Tyan................and do everything over again.......................this will solve problem

Okay did you set everything to default in the bios and clear CMOS?

Don't bad mouth AMD or you would have paid 500bucks for a P4 1.5GHz chip . ouch!

Hehe, don't get me wrong... I like the prices compared to intel, I just wish it worked lol.

Do you guys have any suggestions for another mobo? I've been using Award BIOS for as long as I can remember... come to think of it, I've been using ABit for as long as I can remember too :)

I want a board with RAID, at LEAST ATA/100... need the standard 1 agp for my GeForce and the rest can be PCI, dont need any ISA... would be putting the AthlonXP 1900 in it.

Post your suggestions, thank! :)
