Ok, so I was trying to install a new Epox board/memory and GeForce3 Ti500. The stupid thing wouldn't post at all, even though everything was set correctly and I reseated the memory 30 times. I tried everything twice but no luck. I then decided it might just be that it wasn't getting power, so I jiggled the cord and some pretty blue sparks shot out of my 3 40 gig hard drives. Now, after installing all my old stuff nothing works. The computer POSTS ok but it doesn't recognize my hard drives at all. I put in a new hard drive that I just bought and it recognizes it but when I enter win2k setup and try to install it the installation dies when it loads the drivers and says "Setup is starting Windows 2000" So What would it be? I have all my old stuff, the only "new" stuff (that's probably fried) is the video card, power supply, cd rom, and processor. What should I do? What can I check? I need to get this computer running for school... What might be what's causing the problem? I have the supplied cords from the hard drive so I don't know how it could be that, the power supply turns on and all so I don't know how it could be that, the cpu posts so I don't know how it could be that, and the cd rom drive works so I don't know how it could be that. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to try, what to move, what to do? I'm at a total and complete loss here!!!!!
PLEASE HELP!
Paul

All I can think of is for you to start with the simplest system possible, with the parts you know to work. Then go from there. If you can't get anything to work, there is no way to identify the problem. You may need to borrow a computer to test the drives, memory, etc.

BTW, which cord did you "jiggle"?

Seems like you blew your hard drive..

See if you can bring it to a local store to test it..

Anyways..

Try reinstall what you think works back on the older mobo..

And you'll see what parts have been blown to death or something..

Hope your waranty is still valid though.

I was running (without problem) an athlon 1.4ghz cpu with 3 40 gig drives and a cdrw drive. I had a sb live value a network card and firewire card, as well as a Geforce3 Ti500 all running off a 400w power supply. Cooling I had on a seperate 250w powersupply which had 8 cooling fans and the cpu fan on it. Basically I have all new stuff except for the Video Card, CPU, and CDRom drive, and maybe one other thing which I can't think of in my state. I am trying to get it running but it doesn't seem to work no matter what I try. I am just at a total loss, nothing works, I even tried a windowsxp boot disk but no luck at all. I am seriously confused. Would it be the PSU? Does windows 2000 setup just not like the video card? I jiggled the main power cord that's attached to the motherboard. I don't know though. Would it be my CDRom Drive? I'm running an antec 400w power supply, and I doubt it's overloaded. What should I try? Could it be the CPU? It posts fine...

I have a new one in though, totally new hard drive. Funny thing is I JUST got the hard drive back from RMA from Maxtor. I did reinstall everything on my old mobo, only put on the essentials (including network card of course) The hard drives work intermittantly, sometimes they are recognized sometimes they aren't. When I tried to do a fresh install on a new drive with only the essentials it would load up then go to black. I can't figure out why...
