Open IE.

In the address bar type in:

\\XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX\Z$

Where X = IP address

Where Z = Drive letter

It may prompt for username/password so you'll probably need that.

You can also map network drives this way.

If the PCs your trying to connect to get their IP addresses from a DHCP server behind a private LAN then that won't work.

The way you can get through that (this won't work for secure networks) is basically the same with a small twist thrown in.

Open IE.

Type in at the address bar:

\\XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX\COMPUTERNAME\Z$

The X's are actually the true IP address of the router/DHCP/gateway of the LAN. COMPUTERNAME is the actual name of the computer you are connecting to on that LAN. Z$ is still the hidden share (in NT networks only) you are connecting to. If it's a Win9X network then you can probably replace Z$ to just the actual drive or folder name that is being shared.

Just play around with it and if it's possible you'll be able to figure out how the naming conventions work.

You could make the computer appear in the network shortcut on the desktop by just starting nbtstat and purging the ip you wanna add then go to your Lmhosts file and add the computer name and ip to that file and save it and then it'll be in there, if its not them you can go to find and type the computer name and it will show up, actually i think you have to add it to your Lmhosts first then purge, does anyone know?

So does that mean that anyone can access to this PC, then it is not v. safe and thats WWW instead of WAN
