I have a modem problem. I'm running WinMe I just recently upgraded from Win98 original and didn't have this problem. The situation is that when ever I receive a long distance phone call & my computer is on, the modem tries to communicate or connect for some reason. This only happens for inbound calls if I make a call it doesn't happen. I searched for WinMe drivers but they don't seem to have solved the problem. Also I bought Jane's USAF simulator and I think that that maybe involved. My modem and driver info is:

56K V.90 ITU Fax Modem w/Voice Mail
(Rochwell Chipset)

5614Jx3(G) Internal
(Driver)

Thanks.

A modem will not usually pick up the phone unless a program is telling it to- when it happens, press CTRL-ALT-DEL, and look in the list for any program that might be causing the modem to wait for a call. Then disable that program.

Did this only start happenning after you installed Jane's?

Some where around there also at that same time I upgraded to WinMe but I installed new Me drivers for the modem which don't seem to have solved the problem.

Well, all I can think of is to remove the modem completely from Device Manager, then reinstall it using the latest drivers from the manufacturer.

If that doesn't help, you might try to get it replaced- hopefully it's still under warranty. Usually, for me, when modems start acting strange, it's time to replace them.
