Hey guys,

I assembled an AM2 build. I am having an issue that occurred with an X1800XT in past as well.

Hardware used is listed below

2-XFX 7600GT in SLI with 91.31 driver
Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe
DVI-D cable not original that came with LCD(wondering if this is the reason and if I should have the DVI-I cable which I gave away as it was shorter?)DVI-D does not carry any analog signal but DVI-I does

Seems I can not get display out to my Viewsonic 20.1 VX2025 (1680x1050) via the DVI output on either a single GT or with them in SLI mode. So I hook up my wifes analog LCD Syncmaster 15" via analog to DVI adapter with 1024x768. As expected the display starts up and all is good and I proceed to install XP Pro w SP2 update. I then installed the 91.31 NV driver and then the chipset driver from the Asus CD.

I then checked into NV Control panel looking for any option to make sure the output is set to digital/DVI vs analog, I could not find anything. So I just checked all the settings to see if there was anything missed . I tried in SLI and in single vga mode once I reconnected the VX2025 via DVI. Still no luck when I connect the VX2025 to either XFX card (either card, both dvi connectors tried on each card, and also removed one card to try one single still no luck). With the 2 cards connected to the analog LCD everything is correct, ie) SLI mode and single vga mode.

I know that I had the same issue with an X1800XT on a DFI Ultra D, but once I went into ATI Control panel there was a setting I changed from analog input to DVI and after that it worked fine once I restarted and chose the right resolution upon entering windows. I am using the same cable for the LCD as before and the LCD was last run at 1680x1050 which the 7600 GT's can also do. I know I am missing something simple in NV Control panel but no clue what

Checked in bios and all settings seem correct, what the heck am I missing

Any help welcomed

this model of viewsonic has a known DVI issue, try using the VGA cable see if it works, if it does, your DVI port took a crap on you.

Interesting as the unit worked fine with the 1800xt and I changed guts and now it does not seem to work with the same dvi cable and the 7600GT's.

I tried VGA cable and it works fine via the dvi/analog connector. I will contact Viewsoinic on this to find out more. I had heard about issues but mine has worked fine since I bought it via the same dvi-d cable.

However I found the ATI CCC had a setting that corrected the issue but I have not been able to find anything similar in NV Control Panel.

Any thoughts on the 2 different dvi cables? DVI-D vs DVI-I which carries but RGBHV analog signal. The DVI-D does not carry the analog signal. As mentioned the original cable probably was a DVI-I but I gave it away as I found it too short and the DVI-D was a spare from my plasma.

I have just read a few persons with same issue on various sites, some were told to do exactly whaty I did when I was running the X1800XT, that is go into the video card settings in VGA analog mode and select "dvi" output in the video card settings and then restart following the dvi cable being connected. Issue for me is I can not find anything remotely similar in NV Control panel, does it exist in NV as it does for ATI CCC. Is it available in previous driver versions to the 91.31

Yes, it seems to be a random problem that happens, it can be fixed, but i cant recall the site addy to fix it.

my 2025 worked fine for a week, then crapped out on me after a reboot, it does seem to affect nvidia cards more often.

Here appears to be the fix direct from Viewsonic quoted from hard forum as many have had the issue, that is a real issue it appears with NV cards. Today it seems you have to look at everything before you buy it to see if items will jive, that is a joke as I did not have this big of an issue with ATI card

I had the same problem, twice. The first time it happened to me 1 week after purchase and so I exchanged it. The second time was yesterday. I decided to call Viewsonic support and they gave me the solution to fix it:

1. With the computer on, plug in both DVI and VGA to the video card and the VX2025 monitor.
2. turn off computer
3. remove VGA connector
4. disconnect power to the monitor. Wait 5 seconds and then plug it back in.
5. restart PC.
6. if you have a dual DVI graphics card, slap on a VGA to DVI adapter and the above process will still work.

Since I only paid $210 for the LCD on a botched PM at BB I can accept dealing with this issue otherwise I would give the Gateway a go.

thanks for posting that fix, i know a past fix was one from dell forums and involved using a floppy to kind of reflash the dvi port so to speak.

it is an annoying problem and kind of turned me off of viewsonic, they should be recalling the lcd's and fixing the problem.

If that method doesnt work for you, you can try and use the DVI_Recover utility hosted here (http://www.jeffgeiger.com/Stuff/DVI_Recover.htm) and see if that works. The utility works for some and not for others, hopefully it works for you since I hear that Viewsonic's RMA service is less than stellar.

Thanks for the DVI recovery link. The method I mentioned worked for me and all is good. Besides that issue which is solved I really like the LCD.
