View Full Version : Help! How to stabalize?
I am currently running an XP 1800 on a Shuttle AK31 Rv3.1 mobo oc to 1.58 ghz (11.5 x 138). vcore is at 1.75.
If I up the multiplier or FSB any more it starts to spit out erros, but will still usualy boot to windows.
Is the only way to stabalize to ad vcore?
Are there any other "tricks" I should try?
Should I try to up the FSB or the Multiplier, and lastly
What programs are there to test CPU stability. I have one called Stability test. Is there a better one?
Thanks for the Help!!!:)

you could do any number of things.what kind of temps are you getting? If you've unlocked your multiplier, you could try raising that. More voltage is the easiest way to handle this, though. what kind of memory are you using? it could be low quality memory that is limiting your FSB. you might also try some less aggressive memory timings. Just thought I'd throw some ideas out there.
btw, where in washington do you live? I'm heading out there on tuesday
So far I am getting around 38 - 40c on temps. I have unlocked the multiplier, and I did get the FSB to 140, though it was touch and go as far as booting into windows. The bios has an option with the ram to let it run at the host clk speed or to run at SPD (?). I am assuming that means running at its normal speed.
So upping the voltage is the best way to stabalize? ok, I can do that:) !
Thanks!
By the way, I live in Spokane.

try upping the voltage, but if it doesn't get any better it is your memory. Good Luck.
I'll be on the other side of the state from you, the only time I went to Spokane was in '94 or '95 when some dude was running around with an M-16:eek:.

With that mobo, to crank up the voltage your going to need to do a simple mod....check out over in the AMD motherboard page, "Get Your Volt Mods Here", very simple yet effective way to OC using that board.
Hey guys, I'm running into a similar problem with my setup. Here's the details:
Athlon 1800 (currently overclocked to 1600 with FSB @ 140Mhz)
Shuttle AK31 Rev.3
Crucial DDR2100 (non-registered, no ECC)
2 Maxtor 7200 ATA100 HDD
1 CDROM 52X, 1 CDRW (crappy Creative 8/4/32, Lite-on 24/10/12 on the way...)
PNY GF3 Ti 200
Netgear RT312 NIC
Creative Sounblaster Live (value)
OS: W2K
Here's what's happening; when I run 3DMark2001 my comp will either reboot or dump back into windows at the low detail Nature test. This happens every time. Both the CPU and DDR are currently running stock. Which one of these should I try bumping up? My CPU is currently running at 38C according to the MB thermistor, which seems a little odd because the water block feels like it's running at room temperature...I guess this is a quirk of waterblocks...anyway, ideas? At first I thought it was a driver issue, but I'm not so sure anymore cause it rebooted once just for the heck of it. For the most part it's stable though. I can play games and it's been running for the last 12 hours straight.
Oh yeah, do you think I could overclock any higher than this? There's no manual adjustment in the BIOS for dividers, so I guess the motherboard does it automatically. Could some of my PCI/IDE components be preventing me from getting higher? I tried 145 with the Vcore and DDR set at 1.775 and 2.55 respectively but it wouldn't boot. Should I bump these values up higher? How much can I expect it to take? My DDR timings are as follows:
hostclk
2
4 bank
2t
6t
2t
4 level
1 command
Thanks!
Ok, I figured out that by dropping the CAS to 2.5 it will complete 3DMark, but my performance took a huge hit. Now it is jerky as it pans through the scenes. Can I take it back to 2 if I bump the voltage up? Thanks!
