View Full Version : Repair Audigy?
I hope this is in the right place.
For some odd reason some time ago, two of the gold PCI contacts on my Audigy fried and stuck to the corresponding area in the PCI slot. Now my onboard audio is barely cutting it as I play GTA:SA. The audio just stops and slowly comes back, and its interfering with gameplay. I would post a pic but my camera can't give a good look at the damage.
Could I solder a thin layer into the contact holes to repair the card and be reasonably assured I won't kill anything else?

Well you have to take into account that the contacts may not be the only fried part of your audigy. I guess theoretically you could put some flux down and try and solder it back flat and you should be relatively safe from overheating the card, but it's a risky move. In any case, you can pick up Audigy's for like $30 on ebay nowadays.

omfg... the almost exact same thing happened to me... i pulled the card out of the slot one day, and i saw the trace lifted... it's a GND trace so it really shouldn't have mattered. throw the card in the slot and it takes windows 40 minutes to get to "loading personal settings"...
replaced it with a live 5.1 :(

Ground pins are very important to the operation of any IC.
As long as there are no other problems with the card, ie shorted wires, something else fried, then you could do a repair.
Does the card still work? just because the contacts tore off doesnt mean they don't make a good connection in the socket.

Nope, card doesn't work, I tried repairing the trace with solder, didn't do anything. It's been trashed since ;)
