I recently built my first computer and now i am having troubles with it....need help!
The machine will hesitate and then continue working.
Sometimes it will lock up and need rebooted?
Here is my setup:
Shuttle AK31 rev 3.1 mobo
Athlon 1.4 GHz @ 1.4 GHz
4 x 256 mg micron (crucial) memory PC2100 DDR
Seagate 40 Gig HD
Asus GeForce3 64 mg Deluxe
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum
Yamaha SCSI CDRW 8x8x24 with Tekram SCSI Card
Pioneer DVD 40x
NEC Zip 100
DLink 528 NIC
Digital Doc 5
All this in an Aluminum Lian Li PC-70. :D
Win 2000 Pro SP2 + all suggested security updates
All hardware has the latest drivers (i think)
also running thru a DLink KVM switch
Please help....any suggestions welcome
Try this:
Take everything out of your system except MoBo, CPU, 1 stick of RAM, vid card, HDD, and FDD. Then see if your problem stops. Start adding your other stuff 1 at a time until you start having probs again.
I know it is a long process but......

The lockups may be heat caused. Could you please list your heatsink, because I didn't see it in your original list. That my explain your problem.

Hello
Have you checked your RAM settings and Bios Setup? Try removing all of your RAM except for one stick, try each one individually to make sure that you do not have any sticks that are bad. How are the temperatures in your case? Mabey try running the system with the case off if you find that the RAM is working fine.
Nice System BTW!

According to Shuttle when you fill all ram slots you should use registered ram. When you use 1-3 slots you should use unregistered, which is what you probably have. Try removing one stick, otherwise I would do a clean install of your OS.

Please don't post more than once, you'll get plenty of help if you just post once in the right forum. Which, for a general system question, is General Hardware. :)
So...off it goes!

ARGH!!! Lost first message -- hope you don't get this twice
Heatsink: GlobalWin CAK38 with Artic Silver II (should have got the sk6)
Fans: 2x80 mm and 1x40 mm filtered intake fans, 4x80 mm and 3x40mm exhaust fans, 1x9cm exhaust fan on Power Supply
Power Supply: Enermax Whisper Dual Fan 430 W
Temps: ~35 C, Internal Ambient: ~27 C, External Ambient: ~22
Don't think these temps are too hot???
Memory issue:
Shuttle DOES accept 4 memory's of non ECC memory - IF the memory is Mushkin or Crucial (Micron). This comes from shuttle directly (3 times).....
I called them and they verified it, emailed them and again it was verified, and a buddy emailed them and it was verified again!! Also when the machine boots up it counts up the 1 Gig of Ram.....so I figured it worked.
Is there another way to verify the amount of Ram?
i have p3 733 and sandra shows my cpu temp was 91 deg celsius ! oh man i rushed 2 bios it shows 51 de bhew but its afouly lot so i figure they lie and i keep on living ;)
