A router was added to the mix and now their mail program gives mail server errors where the program can't access either the incoming or outgoing servers. Internet access is ok.

It is a Linksys 54G router, Incredimail is the program and it is through a cable modem (if that matters) running XP Home w/sp2.

The router is set for DMZ, no firewall. I believe the mail access stopped with the addition of the router. This isn't my setup.

Any ideas?

are the errors when sending or rec mail?

ok go into the incredimail account settings make sure the following are right
username
password
mail servers (pop and smtp)
pop and smtp authentication

Can they log onto their webmail?

make sure the isp is not blocking the mail ports, some isps do

give us a copy of the error we might be able to help more

turning your firewall off and leaving it off is a bad move.

Error messages are; can not connect to incoming and outgoing mail servers.
The problem started after the router was hooked up.
Regarding the mail servers, I see there is no provision for mail server addresses as there is in the mail program I use (Opera). I am not real familar with cable internet access since I have DSL. I don't know if she can access the mail through the web server. I know she would have NO idea how, let along even know what the difference is.

cable or dsl... doesnt make a difference. you will still need incoming and outgoing mail servers

see this pic for an example http://support.teckna.com/OutlookSetup_files/image002.gif

if you dont have them, where is your mail going to go when you click send?

i will PM you. i will make you can email account on my domain, try to set up with that, if it works then you know that its their server / account info which is wrong

Thanks for the guide. What needs to be done is the drive wipped and start over from scratch.
There are too many issues with the box in the first place. Mostly only 128 MB of RAM running FP
