I just got the Alpha 4085. I have installed it correctly with AS2. But sadly this cooler performs almost the same as my Taisol HS does. It's with the same fan, and I have also tried to make the fan blow in the HS.
Does anyone have an idea why my Alpha isn't doing better?

My temps are:

Load: 45C
Idle: 42C

Plaese help me I paid about 100$ for this HS, so I really wont it to perform better......

put in the extra washers! that helps a lot!

Next time you buy something PM me and I will buy it and ship it to you 100dollars is way too much money for the HS I bought two for 84dollars shipped!

Do you know what size (as in cfm) of fan you used? I tried to use a lower cfm (39cfm) to minimize the noise, on my 8045. I got similar results, maybe a little hotter. After alot of posts on this board and others I have been told that the Alpha was made to work it's best with a fan of 46cfm or more. I just received a Panaflo U1A, 47cfm, this morning. I will put it on when I get home and will post the results, b4 and after, when I get them. This may or may not be relevant to your setup, but I thought I would share it.

El, did you use the more than one washer per screw on your Iwill?
If so, did you also try it with just one each on each side of the spring? Also, where did you put the "extra"?

The fan I use on my 8045 is a Y.S.Tech FD1281257B-2N

CFM-45 / dB(A)-34 / RPM-3000

I am now sucking of the cpu (not literally) the fan is.

I did not have to use the extra washers but have read it might be required as el has pointed out.

you definatly need a high power fan for these heatsinks becuase they require a high pressure to get through the fins

Pal 8045 uses pins rather than fins. While a higher pressure fan is better, I wouldn't say that it's neccessarily required. I use the silent series sunon (like 29cfm I think) on my MC462, and it keeps a 1.4 TBird around 50C. Since I'm not overclocking it, it keeps it at a workable, stable temp and is very quiet.

2(one at top plus one extra) per screw at the top on the head of the screw. don't do that cuz amd chips might not like uneven pressure.

El, my directions showed that you used the washers like this, if I can explain it right. From the heatsink back to the head of the screw, washer-spring-washer-screw head. Did you do it any other way?

Ok here ya go. Tested the Sunon 39cfm set to suck as per Alpha recommendations. Looper Sandra Burn-in to achieve highest cpu temp. Then changed to Panaflo 46cfm U1A set to suck also.

Results: Sunon = 47c
Panaflo = 43c

A difference of 4c for the higher volume fan. I will try setting things up to blow and see if it makes a difference with the Panaflo after I make a run to the hardware store. Need to get some rubber washers to put between the fan and hs. The noise difference between the 2 fans is not that much. The Sunon is rated at 32 dec. and the Panaflo is 36. Good temps and no Delta scream.

heatsink back to the head of the screw, washer-spring-washer-extra washerscrew head

Thank's Yatta, I will give that a try when new case gets here and I have the m/b out.
For anyone that cares, changed fan direction to blow into hs. Results for me are 1c hotter with the 80 on the hs and the side case blowing in same direction. Added my old getto duct (which was for the 80 in case to 60 on hs) which got temp back down 1c. But airflow was screwed up as it got alot noisier.
I turned things back to suckin and will wait till my Antec gets here and then start all over.

Please explain to me why extra washers will help. :eh?:

Yeah I know it's way to much, but I got didn't look carefully enough when I ordered the HS, and fell in at trap that some Danish steres uses (Long story).

Due to the tolerances of the chip, socket, motherboard & mounting hardware, the amount of force exerted by the springs may be too weak in some cases. This can affect the performance of the heat sink.

Therefore if you feel the spring force is to light , (you feel movement when holding the heatsink & giving it a slight twist or bad cooling temps.) Then add the extra washers.

I too have been slightly disappointed in my PAL8045's performance... with a 44 CFM Delta it's about the same as my SK6/YS Tech 40 CFM. I think I might try the extra washer thing. I had to upgrade to a Delta 68.5 CFM to beat the performance of my SK6..... but maybe the extra washer thing will help. I'll give it a shot on Sunday night when I get back to school.

I have thought about getting the 80CFM Delta, because I can't get the 68CFM, but I'm afraid it's gonna blow my ears off

Would you tell me if how it goes when you place the extra washers?
