View Full Version : Sound problems on kids games.
Since building my new computer, I've encountered a problem with the sound on most of the games my kid plays. I never had a problem with sounds on the old puter and all my games work fine. Games like Putt-putt, Freddie fish, Blues clues, Etc., cause the sound to drop out. its on for about 2 seconds, then off for about 2 seconds. Really weird, and since the sound works great on all the other games we play, I don't know where to look.
Any ideas?
Here is my system:
T-bird 1.33ghz 266 @ 1.33
Epox 8k7a mobo
256Mb DDRram
Phillips Rythmic Edge sound card
Win 98SE
I once had this problom...
It was solved by moving the sound card to a unshared bus.
You might have a fixed sound card if so, try moving other stuff
around. Does it do it when it playes music off a cd, and you
are playing the game?
It plays cd music just fine. In all the games that I play, Halflife, SOF, quake, Thief, Etc., the sound works great. No glitches. Its Just on the kids games. Its not a fixed sound card, I can move it anywhere I want on the PCI buss if thats what you mean.
Try moving the soundcard around, also get the latest drivers.
What I ment above was, while playing a game does music stream
off the cd-rom - sometimes you can encounter probloms due to
this, try disableing the music & see what happens.
Also might I add,
WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!

You are more than likely running DirectX 8 and these games arent designed for it. Biggest mistake I ever did was taking my daughters machine up to DX8.
yes that can be a problom
I do have DX8 installed, but it was installed on my old machine too and I never had that problem on the old machine.
Most of the games affected don't have an option to turn off CD audio, in fact, I don't think any of the music is actually streamed off the CD. Not sure though. Besides, it happens with the voices too, not just the music.
Is it possible to uninstall DX8 easily?
I mean, you don't really need DX8 to play games, do you?

Unfortunatly no, directx messes with the registry etc. and
cannot be uninstalled without rendering the computer
inoperable, you can however reinstall windows and this
should cause it to reset back to the default version.
Get the lastest drivers and use a different IRQ or something or change the slot.
