Anyone seen or heard anything about this?

If you watch this video the intel rep is telling them where to put the solder or silver print to make all conroes unlockable
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7kAIsZE9MU

Is he dying to lose his job or is intel just looking to put a serious hrting on AMD in the enthusiast maket, as we all know only an enthusiast would take a solder iron to his new $250 MB.

He actually says get your boards now before they do a board revision at the end, I would imagine to make this no longer possible.

Thoughts?

WTF..... let me go look at some axe photos and see what he's talking about. Did he just say connect two jumper prongs to unlock multis? I find that hard to believe.

I think he said it had to be solder or silver print, whatever that is. I would imagine you could try to wire it as a temporary try. I get the feeling this is going to be a limited thing now to the newer bad axes and then they will revision it out making it intels way of selling alot of enthusiast boards in a hurry if word gets around. I would bet if its true, they will sell out everywhere in a hurry regardless of what better features ASUS, Abut, and DFI have on their boards, that is unless one of them comes up with an unofficial easy mod on one of their boards... should be interesting. This is why I wait for a while.

Thoughts?

All Intel CPUs have internal multi lock. No modifications to the motherboard can possibly unlock it. It's all a wonderful story. Fairy tale, if you will. Previous thread about this started here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=471610).

He said "if you're good a solderblob". It's just a metal, like any other normal metal that current can run through. But the traces can be bought, I've seen them in PCB repair kits. If it were true FCG would've done it by now.

there are more settings then just the multiplyer that are opened up with an X,EE cpu on board, he said ALL settings but didnt mention the multiplier specificly.. I still think its BS.

I saw this at xs a while ago. I think some people tried and it didn't work, or they couldn't figure out how to make it work.

I don't wonder if was talking about the open jumper spot on the board next to the BIOS recover jumper that gives you all the voltage and FSB strap options when you connect the pads if your not using an ES CPU...It won't unlock your multiplier up, but opens all the options that aren't there for retail CPU's...being a marketing guy, I think he pointed to the wrong spot on the board...

Look at image #3 in this post...

this is nothing more than an intel marketing rep not knowing what they hell he's talking about. a couple people tried it at XS, nothing doing. are we surprised?

there is no way to unlock the multi on Conroe. AFAIK of course ;)

Yeah i saw it at XS. It didnt work for the people who did it.. But the guy also said that the one he was using was the X6800, so there already unlocked.

Unless it was on an early early rev. of the badaxe that intel didnt release, the intel guy doesnt know what he was talking about. Never saw the video though.. Interesting

I'm sure you can just look at the pinout on the datasheet and tell if it's not legit.

X6800 == Fully unlocked multi. goes both up and down.
E6700 and down == Can only go upto Max Multi. No matter what mods you do to the board, this is something internal, inside the CPUs.

It works exactly the same way as with A64s
