ok, i just got a evga 7800gt for 170 bucks. the factory clock is 470/1100.
what is the max temperture for this board? after OC to 488/1200, the Temp is 57C fullload, and when i try to oc from 488 to 491, the system said i fail the test... any idea to push this board further?
i am use stock cooling, which aftermarket fan is quiet and better performance? (price not over 35usd) thanks.

I doubt your temps are the reason. I am at 50C idle and the cards run fine. Have you tried a volt mod?

I clocked through riva tuner. When it says test failled back off it and just OC the mem or the GPU slowly. I'm barely pushing it at 531 on the GPU. All voltmods done w/ heat pipe cooling. Mines at 43c idle.....but load is hard to get a read because the gay nvidia control panel closes while I'm stressing the card....so I can't see the temp history. I'm using everest.

To test my load temps (61C by the way) I open the Nvidia Control Panel to the Temp readings, minimize it, and then run 3D Mark06. As soon as it gives me a score I maximize the NV Control panel for the temp. It has a chart running if you are not that quick or decide to leave the comp during 3D Mark.

By the way, I am using Coolbits 2.0. I did not really like Riva because it was running in the system tray all the time and I try to keep the tray as clean as possible.

Do the BIOs voltmod. You can get an extra .1V and it only makes a difference of 3-4C under load and you will probably get an extra 25-30 Mhz on the core. Most will say safe temps are no more than 65C for normal day to day operation, but running higher than that for benches isn't normally a big deal. I had this card running at 85-86C for a week until I upgraded cooling and it ran/runs just fine.

What are your max clocks BTW?

VideoCardStabilityTestSetup.exe

This program will run in a small window, yet will stress your card a crap load. I reached 69c then I closed it out. It didn't crash my nvidia temp history window either.

Watch your temps people, this exe isn't a joke. It will start stressing just by opening it, and when you hit benchmark you'll see a definite rise in temps.

without vmod i can reach 500/1200 and hit 50 load

btw i found something you might be interested in, its about my card but i think it apllies to all the 7800gt cards

http://www.pureoverclock.com/article22-3.html

so clocking it at 473 will give you an actual clock of 486 which is a 13mhz increase so at 500mhz it will be 513mhz
